Description
The Devils have the pieces to make several big moves and still stay under the cap. They’d be sacrificing their future for sure, but they should be a playoff team for many years to come anyway so it shouldn’t affect them too much.

I wouldn’t even trade a 7th rounder for Patrick Kane

Can’t see the sharks being big fans of that trade. No 2023 1st, no top prospect, not two B prospects.

Yup. Though apparently us Anaheim fans have been low balling ourselves on the potential Rico trade, or so says an athletic article this morning.

Honestly yeah... Probably. It's tough though. He has had a mostly mediocre career and betting on any sort of long term success with him probably isn't realistic, but he is having a good season, is pretty low cost, and no long term commitment being a rental. So, he could probably fetch a decent package. At least a 2nd/3rd and a decent prospect. Especially with retention and/or taking a contract back. I'm not sure what the Athletic article said though.

Edit: Mediocre probably isn't quite the right word. But you get what I mean. He's been fairly solid but nothing crazy, a very good 2nd or 3rd line guy on a good team.

He's also not a rental, he has another year on his contract, hence why we are asking a lot, since we are retaining an extra year. His basic stats aren't that if a star player, but the guy is remarkably consistently sniffing around the 20 goal 50 point mark and is on a career year pace this season. Mostly he earns his paycheck by being a very good 200ft, all situations player, and an excellent faceoff man. We view him as a poor man's Ryan O'Reilly.

Well he's certainly having a better season than O'Reilly.
