From what I read he is got the trade flu. The IR is retro to Feb 7th he will be ready to play. I disagree on the 1st it's all you got. The Prospects are weak. The Avs are desparate for players. They have lost 300 Man games this season. We can't afford to go for anyone serious and Monahan is too hurt to worth it. So unless your going as is which doesn't look too good you have to give to get. I have watch Teows and he is a good 2C. Plus a veteran that can help the youngsters. Your not getting a better trade.

Well, there is some nuance to that. His actual salary for the 22-23 season is only $2.9M, and at this point in the season, it is prorated to less than half of that. The cap hit is a reflection of the total salary paid out averaged over the length of the contract. Most of his contract was paid out in earlier years. Plus, CHI has plenty of cap space. At this point it is just a given that if Toews and/or Kane are moved they are going to come with retention for cap purposes. Every team in the league could pay their salary, but most of them just can't take them because of cap constraints. The cool thing is, even third party retention should be fairly cheap as well, since the actual cost is only like $150K or something like that. As long as the third team can handle the cap hit, the actual cash owed is negligible enough.

I do agree here though. It is all COL has if they want him. 2025 picks won't cut it. CHI could certainly find more ways to sweeten the deal for COL, though. Because Toews probably won't bring back a 1st on his own.

Really depends on where he will go. If he says, "I'll only go to Colorado," then the return will be pretty paltry.

The Avs are definitely thin on players but they are NOT "desperate". This is not a "Cup or bust" season; they don't NEED to make wild swings and give up the few premium assets they have left trying to win a Cup this season. If the asking price for Toews is a 1st, they'll probably pass since they need to re-stock the cupboard.
