Ducks smash accept, only thing that beats that imo is a 2023 1st + a similar prospect

I like the Flyers deal. I do think its better for Philly unless Toronto makes a decent run into the playoffs which is probably not likely

Overlooking the specific pieces that you proposed to move, I think paying the assets to acquire both Meier and Henrique would be a mistake. If they make a big acquisition in Meier, I can't see how paying the premium to acquire Henrique for two years would be justified. With the addition of Bjugstad, they would be better served just keeping Kerfoot for this year, and saving those assets for next year. That way they have cap flexibility for the following season and they can get someone they know they can afford.

I targetted Henrique because at a retained price of 2912500 i figured he could be a slightly cheaper and more offensive version of Kerfoot for this season and next and then they could move on from him in the offseason when they need to take a run at resigning Matthews Marner and Liljgren. Bjustad i like as a big body with the ability to take some RH draws as well and adds some extra size to the bottom 6 that Kerfoot doesn't have. I also like Accari in that spot. I think if leafs cant resign Meier this offseason they could at least try and flip him to regain some of the pieces they traded off prior to the TDL

Yeah, I figured that's why but the cost of acquisition is probably too high for only 2 years and them giving up a lot for Meier. In this case, maybe someone like Laughton (or someone who doesn't take as many penalties), who isn't necessarily more productive than Kerfoot, but he can be their 3C at least 3 more years. Depending on if he will resign at an affordable amount maybe trading for O'Reilly would be better at that cost. Lowest I can see him taking is 4m though, but they can probably get 4mx2 at least. He'll be 33 by then so depending on how his body is feeling maybe he still has 4-6 years in him. Henrique on the other hand is already 33. Or maybe they just get a Kampf replacement (he's probably outpricing himself) and go after a guy like Lafferty. Meier is a significant add so, they don't necessarily need a guy who is good offensive, although Henrique is great defensively as well.

I meant having both Kerfoot+Bjugstad, they can take draws on their strong side, as well as Jarnkrok.

If they go for Henrique, then I think they need to go with a cheaper top 6 option like Domi or Barbashev.

I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM despite the recent accusation that I'm anti-Toronto. And it will be interesting to see whether Meier actually costs that much -- if you are the ones who land him, I hope not.

Thanks for explaining I like the idea of Laughton or a player on a similar contract that could play 3C for a couple years as well. Maybe even a veteran like Toews if he would take a 1M or so contract to try and win for the next couple years.

I have a question though, why do you feel like Kampf will get paid more next season? For such a strong "defensive player" he's sitting at dead even on +/- and hasn't scored a goal while only putting up 6 assists since December 8th, i understand that he's defensive minded but playing 15ish minutes a night you'd think he'd at least produce occasionally

LMAO have you been labeled anti-toronto? Unfortunately we've been labelled as allergic to the second round

I think if he resigns with the Leafs he gets 2-2.5m. Via free agency, depending on how he does in the playoffs, maybe he gets 2.8-3m, if the Leafs make it deep and he's a big part of it 3-3.5m. Kampf's production this year is slightly less than Goodrow's when he won the cup and he got 3.65m. Of course winning a cup makes you rich in ufa, but the cap is going up as well. Any of these numbers are easy to accommodate for the Leafs, if they don't attempt to resign Meier. So getting someone cheap like Lafferty just gives them more options on what they can or can't do next year. Even if they do resign Kampf, they could slide him to the wing and he becomes an Engvall replacement. Of course they do have a ton of guys from the AHL looking to prove themselves this year, so maybe they do make it next year, but having options is important since they don't know what extensions will look like yet.

Toews would be great too, but I feel like he's not interested in joining the Leafs. I think he would be perfect because the cost of acquisition is likely minimal, and I could see him taking a discount like 2.5m maybe not quite 1m, and if he signs for 2-years then that will help them immensely. If they don't land Meier, then I don't think it matters too much on who they acquire in terms of cap hit as long as they aren't expected to make more than 5m. Of course they need, people around the 3m mark for this year to make them fit.
