habs aren't moving dach with how he's been playing, especially for a guy who won't resign in Winnipeg and will likely end up signing with Montreal as a FA

The Montreal trade is close, but the Jets don't need to add anything to PLD.

Neither team does the Seattle trade.

The Jets aren't giving Wheeler and Pionk away for nothing.

Habs pass wait a year because I want to see how our farm players do Mesar,Farrell, beck etc.. if after then if habs want to sign him then go at it. But I really don’t think we need to take on that salary due to cole contract coming.

So you think that MTL would trade Dach, a 1st, Dvorak and Xhekaj for Dubois? What exactly possesses them to do that in your opinion?

How do you figure Winnipeg have that kind of leverage?

When windjammer says a trade is fair you know 1000% the other team is massively overpaying

Montreal will pay less than what a contender will pay for him retaind as a rental next year TDL, they better hold on to him and trade him like that.

Look at what Horvat got and then understand that you would be paying at least that much for a younger, better player with more team control. There's no reason for Winnipeg to add anything to PLD as the offer is the bare minimum cost.

I would argue that Dach and Harris are MUCH better and have a better ceiling than anything that VAN got for Horvat. The 1sts are also pretty much a wash at this point.

From a leverage standpoint though I would say that MTL probably has a much stronger position than NYI had. Assuming Dubois really wants MTL (which is by no means a guarantee but I'll go with it here) then other teams aren't likely to be willing to pay much more than a 1st and B prospect range if they have no hope of retaining him. Even Lou pretty much said he had every intention of re-signing Horvat after acquiring him. I doubt he makes the same offer if Horvat indicates he is intent on testing the market this summer. Likewise I think any team inquiring on Dubois would need to think they have a chance of keeping him before making a substantial offer.

Lastly there are the nuclear option and wait option. The nuclear option is a 1 year offersheet. This would force Winnipeg to either accept the minimal OS compensation or keeping him for the season without getting anything for him as matching an OS prevents the team from trading the player for 1 year. Bergevin probably would have been fine doing this but I think this is unlikely from Hughes. The wait option has been argued to death on this site so I won't get into it here.

Finally I think if Dubois wants MTL both teams will work to find a compromise but in my opinion MTL won't be willing to move Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Guhle or Hutson. I think there is room for WPG to get a good package from MTL for Dubois without these pieces and don't feel like they were robbed. I think they move their 1st pick (assuming it's in the 6-9 range) before any of the aforementioned players. In the end if Dubois doesn't really want MTL though I don't see a trade happening. It's a REALLY, REALLY tough market for local kids and it'd be best he stay away if he isn't sure. That's just my opinion.

I didn't say the package was bad, just that the Jets wouldn't need to add anything. Dach is pretty decent, but Harris as an LD has little to no value to the Jets, so that dampens the value a bit.

Either way the package is okay, but there is no reason that Winnipeg needs to add anything is the point I'm making. They're better off keeping Stanley than moving him for Harris.

Fair enough, I guess I was battling a strawman. Though I would say Dach has probably been the team's best player for much of the year with Monty so I consider him more than pretty decent. My bad if I misunderstood the comment.

No biggie. I like Dach. I don't think Montreal will trade him, but he is a good piece. Good talking at ya'.

To make Dubois' dreams come true.

Even so that would be a vastly more expensive package than VAN got for their pending UFA and far more than Hughes should pay.

If MTL is truly his dream then Hughes likely tries to make it happen but that price is just outrageous.
