Yeah I don't know if Buffalo would give up that 1st here. Keep the SJ 3rd take out are 1st and change the Vegas 2nd to Philadelphia's 2023 2nd. Even if Johnson doesn't sign you get a 2nd rnd pick because he's a former 1st rnd pick. Like the player

He would look nice next to Dahlin and you could drop Samuelsson down and let him try and find his game again. Samuelsson has been bad the last month or so.

I can’t really speak to the Buffalo side of the trade — all I know is that a lot of Buffalo fans have been making similar trades.

What? We trade a 1st and 2 2nds because a guy had a rough couple of games?

No, obviously you didn't read the first post. And it's been more than a few games and his Metrics are horrible this year.

I'm not worried about him at all. Also our team fell apart when he was out

Well you should be cause he has been bad. I like Samuelsson alot but he needs to find his game. His Metrics on Evolving Hockey are horrible. Ekholm would give him that chance to do that and actually could make are D pairings stronger. Just not for this package though.

I had the same thought when reading the proposal...Samuelsson has struggled but, given this is his first full NHL season and he was getting 24+ minutes of ice time on nightly basis right after returning from his injury, it's not a surprise that he's hit the proverbial wall. Just like Quinn and Peterka have flatlined in recent months, I attribute Samuelsson's struggles the past few weeks to rookie fatigue. He's still a special and valuable player worthy of the top 4 role everyone agreed on before Samuelsson's slump.

Ekholm's tread wear at age 32 doesn't bode well or fit within the mantra that Buffalo's GM has been preaching - he doesn't fit the age range or profile of what the Sabres are building around.

Buffalo counters with Johnson and the Second. Buffalo isn't dealing that first rounder unless its for a more significant piece.

Still plays 21 minutes a night, contributes Offensively, good Defensively. His deal is over at 35. I wouldn't do it for a 1st. But I would take him for the right package.

Yeah, not for a 1st. Basically what I said in my 1st post. They Keep SJ pick, take out are 1st and change it to Philadelphia's 2nd.
Basically Philadelphia's 2nd and Johnson

You can't really compare Ekholm with Sammy as the former is just so much better. Ekholm eats big minutes, is a better skater and can move the puck out of the zone. He knows when to pinch, when to sit back and has so much more knowledge of the game than the latter. And probably most important for a potential defenseman on the Sabres, he knows how to defend in a top-four/pairing role.

People keep talking Chyckyboy for 2+ seasons but he's been having trouble staying healthy. Over the past four seasons plus 2022-23, Chyckyboy has played in 255 out of a possible 346 games for the 'Yotes (74%). Ekholm has played 325 games out of 342, or 95% of the Preds games and he will have three more seasons on his contract after this one.

A Dahlin/Ekholm shutdown top-pairing coupled with Power/Sammy would be a top four to die for. Dahlin and Power rockin' the PP, Ekholm and Sammy focusing on the PK.

Go get him, KAGM.

(Ekholm trade proposal coming soon) ; )
