Canucks 22-23

Created by: gordfish
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 18, 2023
Published: Feb. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I've arranged the lineup to look more like what it would be going in to next season. Add Schenn to the defense. After that, they'd only have Bear, Walsh and Hoglander to resign on the NHL roster. They'd have about 10 or 11 million in cap space to get all four done. They could flip Petersen with Martin for a tiny bit more room.

If they draft from where they are right now, it's probably Carlsson or Smith. Unless Michkov drops out of the top 4, which is what you'd think Alvin is really hoping for, short of getting Bedard. I'd be thrilled with Smith, though. He'd likely be NHL ready by the 24-25 season. And I don't see the Ducks or Hawks passing on Michkov.

They can use the Ilses' pick to target a RHD, using one of their 2nd round picks to move up if they have to. Reinbacher is the player I'd be looking for, but Richmond born Dragicevic or Sandin-Pelikka would suit.

With what they'd be bringing in from their reserve list, it should make for a very competitive training camp, not just for spots on the NHL roster, but for Abbotsford as well.

They then can keep Myers and Pearson and hope both players have good enough seasons next year to net them something at the 2024 TDL as rentals, along with Beauviller if they wanted to move him. They could also push the OEL buyout to the 24-25 season, and have plenty of cap space for a lucrative EP40 extension.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Canucks are looking for 1st from a contender for Schenn, but the Flames aren't a contender, so... Keeps Schenn close to home.
2.
VAN
  1. Walsh, Reilly
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (NJD)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Walsh and a 2nd for Boeser, the extra 2nd for retention.

Meier is the better option for the Devils, but if the ask is too much for them in the end....
NJD
  1. Boeser, Brock ($1,500,000 retained)
3.
VAN
  1. Lundmark, Simon
  2. Stenlund, Kevin
Additional Details:
Jets add a forward without touching their remaining draft picks this year, and Garland isn't a rental. Stenlund makes room on the roster; they'd likely lose whomever they put on waivers anyways.
4.
VAN
  1. Andersson, Lias
  2. Petersen, Cal
  3. Spence, Jordan
Additional Details:
Spence is the sweetener, Kings add Andersson in lieu of one of their 7th round picks. At this point, he'll probably go back to Europe.
LAK
  1. 2024 7th round pick (VAN)
5.
VAN
  1. Puistola, Patrik [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Canes could use the depth on the blueline, and Dermott isn't a rental. Puistola needs to be signed by this summer or they lose his rights.
6.
VAN
  1. Bankier, Caedan [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Looks like McDonough has soured on Vancouver. Bankier is a Vancouver native. Both players will be free agents if they aren't signed by July this year.
MIN
  1. McDonough, Aidan [Reserve List]

I truly have no interest giving up any seconds for Boeser. If that would be the price, I'd be out. I'd rather trade aging out young players that may not have a direct path into the lineup and draft pieces to be cheap ELC players when the next generation gets paid.

No thank you. This is more about getting rid of Dermott. We will find our depth D elsewhere. If we opt not to sign Puistola it's because we don't want him. All yours.

The Schenn deal is fine whether on not the Flames will be buyers is another question. The Kings deal is absolutely garbage for the Canucks he has three more years @5 for Jordan Spence no thank you. Rather keep Garland for that price. The Boeser deal is a little rich especially with no cap coming back, one second probably gets it done.

The Canes could use an upgrade on de Haan. Dermott is a straight up downgrade.
