So if all the stuff offered here is much worse, how is it comparable? Come on

Would much rather have 7OA over Holtz,, cap dump etc. Meier is also better than Debrincat and has another year of team control.

Devils advocate to that is DeBrincat had slightly more team control at the time of his trade than Meier will, is younger, and has a much more desirable QO, while being a more productive player at that point in his career as Timo was during his same age seasons.

No it's right on all but the Devils 1st vs 2nd pick. 2/3 is better than most NJD proposals on here

Maybe NJD should call up Ottawa and offer up this proposal?

Just using the Athletic and Seravalli’s reporting as the basis here

The first step is realizing the problem.

I think you have a very good offer here. Timo is great but Grier isn't allowing teams to negotiate an extension prior to accepting an offer. How much more could be expected than a first, a good prospect in Holtz and a third? Timo's time in SJ is over and everyone knows that. Cat was moved at the draft with more cap space on the market too.

I mean, they’re just using comps. And Seravalli is definitely plugged in around the league

Every situation is different. Comps is just a lazy way to look at things. Different players and different GMs at different times.
People think every big defenseman is worth a first + because Florida made a bad trade for Chiarot.
A good GM would do their own research before looking at comps.

You’re essentially suggesting market value is ignored. That’s ridiculous

Are we ignoring the 3 big trades already that have happened this year and saying the market isn’t up?

Where has Meier stated he didn’t want to stay in San Jose? He has said he loves being in San Jose and the team. He has zero control over where he goes.

3 rentals, 2 of which were centers. Center≠wingers
And the Tank deal brought an underwhelming return anyway

Correct, he does not. Everyone knows that and the team's intentions.

Yes 3 rentals, which Meier is not. Tarasenko has produced less, is much older and has significant injury history. He also had a no trade clause which significantly tarnishes the return. Horvat was a rental when moved and still got a 1st plus plus. Even Ryan orielly got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd with 19 points in 40 games and injuries this year. That was the value so called insiders gave Meier. So yes the market is up and yes Meier will return more than these players

His QO is leading teams to treat him as a rental.
That’s why he will still bring in more than Tank

Again, Horvat and ROR are not comparables. They are centers
