Seattle Trade Deadline

Created by: tim95030
Team: 2022-23 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 20, 2023
Published: Feb. 20, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This gives the Sharks what they desperately need cap space and youth. This also gives the kraken Eller to boost faceoffs and a little higher tier scoring to make a playoff run while not sacrificing too much in the way of youth. This isn't likely as I don't think Francis wants to move out so many picks, but something like this would give them the superstar they need while also not sacrificing too much youth. Eller helps the playoff run and then next year they can plug Wright into that spot and not worry about losing Eller.

If there's no retention then Sharks definitely do this.

I don't think SEA does this. I see Ron Francis being more conservative with a new franchise. He's going to hold on to his assets. This is more something Vegas would do.

Would be absolutely nuts to see Karlsson move without any retention involved.

I mean, if Seattle's offering, I see no reason to even consider declining this from Washington's perspective. However, if I'm Seattle, I'd probably hold out for better offers on Soucy than dealing him and a young/cheap defenseman for a 3C.

I don't disagree. I'm a Sharks/Kraken fan and I like both sides of this, but it was mostly me dreaming. I do think he is mostly saving for the future, but at the same time this still keeps 2 2nd round picks this year and leaves Jacob Melanson, Tucker Robertson, Kyle Jackson, Ty Nelson, and David Goyette in the pipeline. With some youngish guys like McCormick there for depth. I really think their pipeline is already looking pretty good and sacrificing a little bit now for this I don't think hurts the future. They do need to re-sign Dunn in the offseason, but beyond that they only really need to sign one of Donato, Geekie, or Sprong in my opinion as they have guys like Mccormick and Lind ready to join in. They also have Wright next year which means they just use Eller as a playoff rental, and honestly cap looks good for the next few years with all the youth coming in. I don't know that's my thinking.

The move here is to offload cap space to allow for Karlsson to join and also adds a nice piece to bolster faceoffs (somewhere the Kraken need help on) and somebody I think is better then Wennberg which is who he would replace in the lineup with this fantasy.
