You can probably drop that Hoffman pick to a 3rd. Puljujarvi has no value unless he accepts an extension far below his QO. We'll take him and see if that's an option, but he probably goes to UFA.

Awful. Just awful. Even with half salary retain … and no draft pick

Hoffman is negative value, even at half retained whereas Pool party is neutral value... The second round pick is going the wrong way here

seeing that teams are willing to retain 1-2 mil for a fourth i can see a 3rd round pick instead

The second might be a little overkill but the trade would be a good get for both teams as the way i see it. Puljujärvi is a good player but he's almost a non factor on the score sheet this season. yes he has good underlying numbers but the top 6 wingers on the oilers are always in shambles. Even though hoffman is bad in his own end he does still have top 9 scoing upside with good speed. if paired with Mcdavid or RNH i can see him scoing on a more consistent basis. With the half retained as well its a bit of a gamble having him for an extra year but if it pans out and he can score 20g 20a if the following season it could be a nice cheap player till cap space can be cleared for a better winger or holloway develops

I'd doubt arizona resigns either of them next year, so flipping both for a 1st, a Mid tier prospect and 2 replacement roster player seems fair enough

That seems like a bit of a stretch in value but if he keep his current production through the rest of his contract he could be a worth while grab for any cash strapped contender

Agreed, There are no decent centers available. Could be a 2nd I'd argue

The extra year retention though should be costly. I'd do at worst a 3rd otherwise it will waste a retention spot for next year.

Hoffman has 9 pts his last 8 games and they are retaining next year. You think Mtl would waste a retention spot and pay for it when the Wild are getting picks for them?

You are forgetting the crazy wife fiasco in Ottawa right? No NHL team touched him when he had a reasonable deal and was a 30 goal scorer. Now, his production is slightly less. I don't see MTL trading him but no team wants him (maybe MTL but not any other)

I think you're forgetting the off-ice situation with his wife/EK65's wife...

the point is that a team retaining and paying for it with a pick when they are rebuilding next season again. that makes no sense. hoffman can rot, they'd never pay to move him. the whole point of moving him would be to clear space to be a broker for a team so the 2nd isnt going to the wrong team.

That's irrelevant, he's still negative value due to his off ice things

His wife might be a bit mental, but even after that situation he still got traded for a 2nd 4th and 5th without retained salary.

I'm not saying that's what they'll get but yeah I bet that's the asking price for domi retained. Ask for a 1st to see how stupid gm's are and hope someone gives you atleast a 2nd. With laf you ask for a 2nd hoping someone is desperate but settle for a 3rd
