Blues in on Meier teams better pony up

Created by: glarson17
Team: 2022-23 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2023
Published: Feb. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
32 thoughts thinks San Jose wants mostly picks and Grier is holding his hand and waiting until he gets a proper offer. They made it seem like San Jose wants multiple picks in this years 1st round which the blues can do.
Trades
1.
SJS
  1. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  2. 2023 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Lebrun on insider trading states Blues are willing to move 2 1st rounds for Timo Meier. I see that as the start of the trade, likely another piece or two in here.
STL
    Meier
    2.
    SJS
    1. Perfetti, Cole
    2. 2023 1st round pick (WPG)
    Additional Details:
Lebrun states the jets have asked about Meier, join the party
    WPG
      Meier
      3.
      SJS
      1. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
      2. Rees, Jamieson
      3. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
      4. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
      Additional Details:
Always been rumored to be in on Meier even without an extension. Beginning to hear that the good prospects are “untouchable” and that may push them out of contention for Meier
      CAR
        Meier
        4.
        SJS
        1. Nemec, Simon
        2. 2023 1st round pick (NJD)
        Additional Details:
Devils have serious competition for Meier. Fans seems to think they are owed Timo Meier for a while. They have to pony up now and make a serious offer to compete.

Yet another team with “untouchables” that may have to bend to get Meier. 32 thoughts talked about Grier holding his position and waiting until teams give in on his wants more.
        NJD

            He’s day-to-day it’s not serious

Yeah, still think Snuggerud and Bolduc (who are both in the Top 50 prospects list) is a better and more appeasing prospect than Holtz at this point.

Okay but prospect people still are moderately high on him. the projection has certainly come down but not that far.

Like what at the start of the year when he was expected to be on the team for sure?

Agreed, I would think Grier looks for snuggerud, he loves college players

He was projected to be a 3rd liner at the start of the season
With Zetterlund's good play and Holtz not fitting on the physical 4th line, he was pushed out of the lineup
They should've played him in the AHL rather than let him sit in the press box

Devils should look elsewhere if the ask is L. Hughes, Nemec or Mercer

Or wait for Meier to be a UFA in 1.5 years

And it was pretty well known in the NJ circles that the bottom 6 would be tough to make it into, let alone a guy that needs top 6 minutes like Holtz

How can the ask be the 4OA (Hughes) in '21 and redraft he'd probably be #1
            Or
            2OA (Nemec) in '22
            Or
18OA (Mercer) in '20 in a redraft jumps to 12th
All with an add of 24 or so.
For most likely 25 and 28 or later in this draft.
            Silly math!

This just seems like you’re assuming the value of a return went up because another team (STL) is in the mix, which isn’t necessarily true when theyre most likely dangling two late 1sts and not their own pick

Moving out a defensemen is great and all. But, who waives you somebody that is going to give you anything beneficial?

Losing Krug makes the most sense. But then our powerplay which has carried most of our scoring this year is a mess.

Losing Parayko makes the least sense but would probably have the most suitors. But be prepared to give up 5+ goals a night for 2-3 years until someone is developed.

Losing Faulk is doable but who plays 19-20 minutes on RD that’s coming in return and has a beneficial impact to the game?

I would love for the Blues to acquire Meier trust me, but we are not in a position to get in an arms race for him at all. Moving both firsts isn’t the worst thing in the world, nor would he losing one of the late firsts and Bolduc. But I don’t see us winning an arms race with NJD, nor do I see any team trading a top prospect before gauging where they fit in to sign a guy to a 10m/year extension.

i assume no matter what trades the Blues make, it's with an eye towards the future...and well, look at that, St. Lous boy Scott Mayfield is an RHD who just so happens to be a UFA this summer! Perfect for filling those 19-20 minutes you need filled!

please sign him so Lou doesn't give him 6x$6M or something insane

If Meier was willing to extend(very unlikely) I'd consider this if I was Chevy.

Even moreso terrified that we're going to do something equally as dumb. If Mayfield came in around 4 x 4 I could possibly see something like that. But i dont think people realize that Parayko has the hardest deployment in the league. You can't just sign a guy who is a UFA for below that cap hit and put him in that spot and expect good things to happen with an inadequate partner

Yes we know, you think Timo is worth a bag of pucks

No, I actually like him, but he's not getting the 3 firsts and 1 or 2 top prospects that you always ask for. He'll get a decent return for a player in his situation. But he's not getting a young top 6 player with 6 years of team control left from Winnipeg. That's all.

I know you all want a better player than Holtz, and I know you all want a better pick than 25.

But I just don't think it's gonna happen, man. And if Greir keeps Meier becuase of that, well good on ya. But I don't think he would.

Lots of ponying up happened, but the pony started wayyy lower than OP thought

RFA wingers always go for less than you'd expect.

Unless you’ve taken a single look at what RFA wingers actually go for

Does Zetterlund, Othutiuk, Johnsson, Mukhamudullin, a 1st, and a 2nd work?
