Trades
1.
VAN
  1. Smith, Craig
  2. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Boston a weird one, doubt they get both schenn and gavrikov. If both of bostons 2023 1st and 3rd are gone to columbus. only thing of interest would be Lysell
BOS
2.
VAN
  1. Foote, Cal
  2. 2023 4th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
would honestly be shocked if Cal Foote isnt a Canuck by game 1 next season. 2+2=4
TBL
3.
VAN
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  2. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
same thing as Boston trade. Cap dump makes the price a 1st. If no Puju then maybe Bourgault and a late pick?
EDM
4.
VAN
  1. Iorio, Vincent
  2. 2023 4th round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
dont care if WSH isnt interested i want vinny lol
WSH
5.
VAN
  1. Lucic, Milan
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Flames not looking like buyers anymore but if they wanna be bold this would give them big time cap space

schenn would cost a 2nd on his own. Boston doesnt have a 2023 2nd so if its to boston its either a first and a cap dump or a late pick and B prospect (Lohrei, Beecher)

Again, no thank you. He’s a 7/8 defenseman. Keep him.

TB reported interest AND Foote reported on the block.

schenn has also resurected his career in VAN and is having the best season of his career

I think Schenn was better last season and what happens when he’s no longer playing with Quinn Hughes is my question…. He’s been terrible paired with anybody other than Hughes this season.

Schenns biggest weakness is footspeed. He just needs honestly an average skater net to him who excels in puck retrievals. His two main parters have been hughes and stillman and yes it has been night and day, but stillman is not an NHL defender. Terrible is a stretch tho beside a few select games

so if minny eats 1.8 for a 4th. a 2nd for 3 mil makes sense. add a 2nd for luke schenn aswell. 2 2nds for a late first?

Is it hard to make these calculations with blue and green glasses on?

No, taking on a $3m contract for one year isn’t getting that kind of a return. Hope for a third

There was no logic in what you did. You took one example, and then made some weird extrapolation that made no sense. We have plenty of precedent regarding cap dumps. It doesn’t cost that much.

what you cant seem to grasp is that it is not a pure cap dump. they are also getting one of, if not the best RHD rental on the market who is playoff proven and can make 425k wit retention. The cap space saved from smith along with schenns low cap hit allow them a lot more flexibility for other signings. like i said if they are getting gavrikov this trade doesnt happen

Canucks asking price is a 2nd round pick or 3rd + prospect minimum. Seeing as how they suddenly scratched him for trade related reasons, it likely means their asking price is met

And look around to what depth D have gotten in deadline deals, and look at the reports saying that somebody will likely overpay for him.

Gives cap relief in order to go out and make another move. what it costs to dump cap in this world

it does not cost the top prospect (likely A level) or a first round pick to dump an expiring contract , you're dreaming , if you were talking riley you might have a leg to stand on , smiths deal is done in 4 months

best RHD rental* all those guys have term and klingberg blows. Schenn also makes 825k against klingbergs 7m. Schenn can actually play defence. The only way a team would value klingberg more is if they need a pure pp1 qb to stick on their third pair

Lower your expectations pretty drastically.

Per Kypreos: "Rutherford is asking for a 2nd for Schenn"

Per Friedman: "Calgary Flames: They looked into acquiring Vancouver’s Luke Schenn but the price looks like it was higher than they wanted to pay." [A 3rd based on Flames insiders]

Per Pagnotta: "Get the feeling that Canucks are asking for a 3rd+ [for Schenn]"

at best he's a bottom pair d man on any of the playoff teams , on many boston included he's a 7th , that will not bring you a first round pick in any market especially in a strong draft year

ben chariot got a first round pick (unprotected) with a statline of 7-11-18 in 54 (-18) while making 3.5mil

David savard got a first with a statline of 1-5-6 in 40 (-19) while making 4.25mil

Luke schenn currently has a statline of 3-18-21 in 55 (+9 on an awful canucks team) and makes league minimum in a flat cap league. not to meantion the fact he leads the league in hits and has playoff pedigree.

And if you actually read the post and my other replies instead of running straight to the comments, youd realize its not a1 for 1 trade, canucks are also taking a cap dump back with would cost a 2nd/3rd on its own

Brian Burke famously demanded a 1st for Antropov... and settled on a 2nd. This is Negotiating 101. We'll see if the ask is met or lowered...

Except Schenn is being sat because someone has met those demands, just waiting for other dominos to fall.
