Annual Goalie Pickup

Created by: Mystaes
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2023
Published: Feb. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
For the last two years, steve has spent a 3rd round pick in the summer to get the rights to and sign a goalie - nedelkovic and Husso. One of those trades worked out, the other didn’t.

With the goalie market as it is, I am sure there will be a scramble for backups this summer too. And I’m sure that Steve will consider sending a pick to get the jump on one again - Husso is good, but more suited to 1A with a solid backup then be a 60+ game starter.

If we’re gonna do it anyways might as well do it to help this playoff push while not spending too many futures

The best thing steve can do - while not adding significantly - for this team right now would be to find a suitable backup.

So, who is out there? Which of these is available for a third?

If you think you’ve got an option let me know. We just need one that can play nhl games more then once every six games....

i doubt monty would be available. he is cheap, young and is posting starters save percentage this year. it just doesnt make much sense for the haba to trafe with how little option we have in the pipeline.

Yeah I figured with his 2 years left, doesn’t quite fit the bill of an expiring ufa goalie

Stolarz is 6’6” but also has the worst metrics here.

Then again... he does play for the ducks

That's a bit of an exaggeration...... He's only 6'5".

I think the metrics never accounted for a team rocking half a defense, and are somewhat broken by the Ducks this season (maybe a duress coefficient is required that escalates based on shot count).

That said, he's most likely avaliable for a 3rd or 4th round pick, very serviceable backup goalie, but it's clear he's not going to be in Anaheim for long with Dostal waiting in the wings.

They do have him listed here as 6’6 240 though but I do think we have him at 6’5 on our website

I really hope Dostal starts getting more and more games as the year goes on — maybe a 35/65 split with Gibby
