Deadline and Offseason moves into next year

Created by: glarson17
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2023
Published: Feb. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Sharks make moves at the deadline and offseason. They have been linked to the oilers with Karlsson, who is rumored to be willing to waive his no move for Edmonton. San Jose also was talked about on 32 thoughts regarding their prospect pool and believing it isn’t as good as it was thought to be originally. They want to acquire picks to bolster the organization’s depth. They make moves to acquire picks in this draft and get a prospect and RD depth in the nhl lineup for years to come.

Current 1st rounders are placed at 4oa, 11th and about 20oa
Washingtons 1st would have protection something around top 10 or 12.

Sharks draft first three rounds:
4th oa: Matvei Michkov
11th oa: Axel Sandin-Pellikka or David Reinbacher
20th oa: either Brayden Yager or Dmitri Simashev

36th oa: Hunter Brzustewicz
43rd oa: Gabe Perrault
52nd oa: Bradley Nadeau

75th oa: Tanner Moldenyk

Sharks also draft Goalie Adam Dubal later in the draft to bolster the goaltending room.

You get a guy with 39 points in 58 games at $2.25 mil for this season and next season. Barabanov $2.5 mil this season and next season with 37 points in 53 games (57 point pace). You’re getting good players on CHEAP deals. That 1st would have protection on it, forgot to put that note in there

Edmonton cant make that move at the deadline. It would absolutely gut their roster. Maybe in the offseason.

Maybe a better roster players going back than Viel and Harrington. The d still looks fine, just not a ton of offensive depth but neither of those guys are producing much as of now

His analytics are very meh, slightly below average the last 3 years combined. He gets top line minutes with 1st unit PP time. He won't get either of that with the Caps.

He’s a 2nd liner winger on Washington right now and likely pp2

Oh so what I’m hearing is he is exactly what we have a surplus of? We don’t need more forwards and we don’t need Barabanov. You want that type of return? Give us Meier. Then we’ll talk.

    No don't think so.

    Ovi-Strome-Wilson
    Milano-Backy-Mantha
    Sheary-Kuz-Oshie

    He might boot Sheary?

As for PP time, Mantha doesn't even get PP time. All the left handed work goes to Kuz, Backy, Strome, Mojo. So he'd have to outplay Mantha and Mojo to get a 2PP spot.

Barbonov is more than likely a middle 6 winger which Caps are stacked with. The only thing they need is a young top 6 forward so they'd only call SJS about Meier, which Chesley+1st+2nd+3rd might actually get him. Caps probably have to throw in 1 more big piece, but I'd rather do that than get Barabonov and Barrie.

foegele has been great the last few weeks been very productive. Yamo hurt for most of the season so you are right hard to gain traction there.
however they both provide more than just points. both are some of EDM most physical players and both kill penalties.
    yamo plays 15-17mins a game

The oilers do not have many options to fill those roles so as was said before it would gut their roster.

His WAR and advanced analytics is skewed because of his poor finishing but he has 5 goals in his last 8 games and is starting to shoot a lot more and go to the front of the net. Despite that he's still is on pace for 55+ points. Interesting that you'd combine his last three seasons when, if you look at those three seasons, he's improved significantly each year.

He's also not playing on the first line this year. He's played primarily with Cooch and Lindblom/Eysimont,/Lorentz/Bonino (revolving door of bottom six wingers). I think he'd compliment Wilson's play really well.

There's a difference between a guy not fitting in your lineup and people saying he's not worth much. Barabanov has a ton of value, just not what the caps would be looking for

According to Dobber line tool he's played in top 6 with the majority of his lines: https://frozenpool.dobbersports.com/frozenpool_linecombo.php?select=F&forward=S.J%3A5323%3AALEXANDER%3ABARABANOV&games=2022-2023%3AR%3A99&period=ALL&situation=ALL

So his top 9 lines (almost 80% of his ice time) all have Coutire, Hertl, or Meier on it, some have 2 of those guys on it at the same time. According to NatStatTrick, he's also played the 3rd most 5v5 time among SJS forwards all season; he has played more than Couture even though Couture has played 5 more games than Barabonov. He also averages the 3rd most ice per game, almost 2 minutes more than Couture. He also averages the 4th most PP time among SJS forwards in both total and per game. So he has been playing top line minutes with top line players all season and getting top PP time.

Almost as funny as thinking Barabanov and Barrie get this return from a team who is selling. Not quite as funny, though.

The caps kind of have to go all in, they are running out of time. This year and maybe next year and they are a$$ quick after that. Like I said 1st can have protection on it. It’s really not that high of an ask for two players on bargain deals that out up points

When did I say I wanted to get rid of him? lol I only want to move him if they get the assets he's worth.

If the caps don't want him idaf, but don't pretend he's not a valuable player with an incredible contract. You've clearly not watched him

So he has been playing top line minutes with top line players all season and getting top PP time.

That shows exactly what I said. He's a top 6 winger, on the second line with Couture and an assortment of bottom six wingers. He started the year with Hertl and Meier because they were great together last year but didn't look great to start this year. He's played the very large majority with Couture and Nieto/Eyssimont.

You have it sorted by all situations where he does play on PP1. But he plays in these situations because he's a top 6 winger, not because he's getting carried by his teammates. This isn't exactly a star-studded roster

lol more production than Mantha at less than half the cost. Beats out Milano and sheary all day

Mantha would shred if he got the top line minutes and top PP minutes. Milano too. I like Barabonov, he's a good middle 6 winger, but Caps don't need more middle 6 wingers, they need legit top 6 wingers.
