Carolina wont pay a first for Jeannot, and we could retain half salary for Nino and get just a first.

I don’t like that Saros trade

I feel like Ekholm could get more. Kerfoot is just cap going back, Robertson is basically dead in the water due to multiple injuries derailing his career. A 1st and a 3rd isn't getting much for 4 seasons of Ekholm at 4 mil aav.

The odds of a pick 25-32 (where Carolina likely picks from) becoming a full time NHL player is below 50%. It would be a smart trade for both teams.

As far as Saros, the Preds should trade him and they should ask for a haul. He’s a top 5 goalie but he’s useless to the Preds right now. All he is doing is single-handedly keeping the Preds from improving their draft spot.

Def an over ask but with retaining salary they would want an over pay. NJ might not be the right target to try to get that overpay

If we’re moving Saros i’d prefer a blue chip prospect, which we aren’t getting here.

EDM refuses. Even if Saros is a great goalie, they'd be stuck in a situation where they'd have 3 goalies occupying 12.6mil of their cap and will have spent 3 1sts and two middle-6 Ws to do it. Fabbro brings nothing to the table that adds value to the deal. If you want the 3 1sts for Saros, Campbell will have to be going back the other way which is why such a deal for Saros wouldn't work between the two teams.

I’d agree with most of what you’re saying but Robertson still has real value, he was ranked as the leafs second best prospect by Scott Wheeler at the Athletic after his injury and still has an impressive resume for being what? 20 years old.

Robertson has a non-existent resume for a 20 year old. He hasn't been able to do anything at the NHL level despite multiple opportunities. To give you an idea, he has 7 points across 31 games. Assuming an 82 game season, that would be a 19 point player and it's not like he's scoring goals either. Robertson is nothing until he shows otherwise.

As for the OP, got to imagine Ekholm's ask would start at the Muzzin comparable. A 1st, a good prospect and a lesser prospect. Probably looks something like the Leafs 2024 1st, Topi Niemala and for the lesser prospect I'd guess Nashville would want to go younger if they are selling guys like Ekholm so I'd throw out a Nick Moldenhauer. And thats before asking for 3 more seasons of retention which is probably just unworkable as far as cost goes.

Like I said I agree that Ekholms value is higher, but I’m just wondering why the hate for Robertson? How many 21 year olds have had multiple at or near PPG seasons at the AHL level in addition to dominating the OHL. Injuries suck and he hasn’t played great in the NHL yet but even this year he’s at a near 30 point pace over an 82 game season which would be great production for a kid who plays 10 minutes a night. Give him a healthy season and a real opportunity and he’s a 15 goal 35 point guy minimum with the potential to be much more.

I'm with @Leafsleaks123 here. Production is actually what's in Toronto's favour when it comes to negotiating deals with Robertson, it's the injury history/risk that will be the issue. For example, Dylan Holloway with Edmonton holds good value and hes only 12 days younger than Robertson. If you compare the two's production at all levels, Robertson has been better. Mind you this is in a much smaller sample size because of the injuries, but still, my overarching point holds true. To right off Robertson as a prospect at 21 years old due to his lack of NHL production is a bit of an overreaction. If you are to argue writing him off because of the injuries, then I think you may be able to make a better case

I like Jeannot but certainly not for an entire draft class plus a prospect
