The Pens shouldn't be trading any futures (they don't have many). Even if they make the playoffs are they going to win a round?

With Miller, Duclair and Chychrun I'd argue that they could. Stars are playing great, just no supporting cast.
What's the alternative? Wait for Owen Pickering and those 23 and 24 first rounders to be NHLers in 5 years when Sid, Geno and Letang are 40?

That’s why I think this would be a bad idea. Knowing Hextall’s cautious nature, I can’t imagine he really wants Millet and Chychrun but if he’s going to sabotage us on the way out the door, sticking us with Miller’s contract works.

I mean, was Hextall, who is a lifelong Flyer, ever planning on putting his best foot forward for the Pens? I mean, it’s ironic and all that of everyone, he is the GM for the Pens, but the question still remains. I don’t know, but ever since he was hired, I have just had a gut feeling that Hextall will bring tears to a lot of the Pens faithful, and not in a good way.

That being said, still really hoping for a Canes-Pens Round 1 matchup. So really hoping the Pens can snag WC1

This has been my feeling all along too. I get it, they’re pros and they’re supposed to do the job and put the rivalry behind them… but who knows. We have too many connections to front offices around the league to not have a GM with Pens connections.

Yeah, I get they are pros, you still have to wonder if Hextall has truly put the hatred behind. Cause every in state rivalry is a brutal one.

There’s also just the chance he sucks at this since he also sucked for Philly.

It's more of question of having 12.6m this summer without the cap hit of Miller and Chychrun and keeping the young assets. Surely 12.6m could be spent better than those two players.

Miller probably, Chychrun must be one of the best value top 4D in the league. Which ones do you have in mind?

I think we all know we aren’t getting Chuchrun. I’m shocked Hextall even went for Rakell last year. That’s as bold as he can get.

Miller and his 8 deal starting at age 30 should scare anyone. Gee, for 14.6m in cap, gee you could get a premium forward and OK Dmen. Giving all those picks just to take on 14.6m in cap for just OK value just doesn't seem like a great deal. Heck get Larkin or Pasta as UFA, and figure at the other LHD, geez LHD or quite numerous at anytime.

I thought that Chychrun package would be going for Gostibehere. Hextall signed him to his current deal as a Flyer

Yeah I doubt Larkin or Pasta want to sign short term deals, and they won't want to do long-term deals in Pittsburgh. Either would cost more than 8 million and not leave much room for a D. No UFA D this year is as good as Chychrun (or even close actually, pretty bad crop)

I agree that Miller's 8 mill could be broken up over free agency to get more quantity than quality. But Chychrun's play and deal are pretty elite

Every one of these players are signed beyond this year though. Giving up futures is exactly what they should be doing.
