Even if the Sharks retained half on Hertl (they obviously wouldn't), we still couldn't be cap compliant with Hertl next season.

Foligno to Buffalo, Goligoski to AZ, Fleury to Pittsburgh. That’s $8.6M - replacement cost = $5.6M. Combo that with Greenway going to SJ and we could make the cap work.

Sure, but we all know Guerin isn't going to trade Foligno or Fleury. And again, there's no way the Sharks retain half for 8 years...

Not saying he's a good fit for the Bruins, but how is 4x$5M a bad contract for a 2C? I know the Bruins have a bunch of altruistic centers who don't get paid what their worth, but I think that contract would be fair market value.

He could trade both of them and that scenario wouldn’t require retention at all.
