Description
Now with potentially five (5) top 50 picks in this years draft, we’ve got something to build on going into next year’s offseason for this teams future and really shape this ‘Yzerman’ roster.

There’s been speculation that this move might be a precursor to a Chychrun deal (I hope not), or something else - I’d rather just have the picks and keep ‘em.

Canucks fans, I sympathize with you. It seems like nobody you guys put in as GM makes a deal that Vancouver wins. It’s unfortunate but, this isn’t the worst deal I’ve seen. Hronek is a good player and plays a solid two-way game at a premier RHD position but, I don’t think he’s worth two top 40 picks in this years draft.

Those picks can be franchise altering pieces for Detroit. Great move by Yzerman. You now have 5 Draft Picks in the Top 40/45 in one of the deepest drafts. I’d hold on to most of them though. Maybe you use a pick to either trade down, trade into next year or get a player. Rebuilding GMs drool for that type of draft capital.

I hate this deal really, it's a great return but I hate moving a top 4 Rd.

The fact that you called Hronek a two-way guy makes me feel a lot better.

The timing of this deal is crazy and the fact that it came out of nowhere is also crazy considering the amount of noise surrounding Vancouver. The trade must have come together within minutes after re-signing Larkin.

Let’s be honest, Hronek is a good player and is paid below market currently but, we woulda had another year with him, then what? A raise to $7m+ over 8 years? You wanna give him that?

This trade lets other GM’s know we’re open for business and we’re willing to trade guys that aren’t rumored to be traded in the papers every day. Anyone not named Moritz Seider can be had. Or I guess now, or Dylan Larkin as well….🥴

Look, a lot of people will knock his defense but they’re wildly overreacting or just don’t know how to judge a NHL defenseman very well. He’s at a bare minimum an average defender. I personally think he’s better than that.

With Detroit in the middle of a Playoff race, what are the chances that those assets are used to acquire someone like Chychrun as you said?

The deal is Horvat and a 2nd for Beauviller, Hronek, Raty and a 3rd. It's a solid deal, and the Canucks still have a first round pick.

The Canucks need defensemen who can move the puck out of their own end efficiently. If they keep those picks and take defenseman, how long before they can help this group? 2 years? Three? Four? Those are all wasted years of Petey's, Hughes and Demko's prime.

You wanted a rebuild in Vancouver? You had one already. Boeser, Demko, Virtanen, Juolevi, Gaudette, Petey, Woo, Hughes, Hoglander, Podz...this was the rebuild. It just didn't work.

It feels like we're afraid we missed out on the buying frenzy and we're trying to salvage some picks by selling a piece we shouldn't. It makes me even less optimistic about the return for Bert or any hope of getting value for vrana. Theres very few guys I would have been unhappy with moving and he was 1 of them

Yzerman making space for Chychrun or Holl, take your pick lol.

I think he deals Bertuzzi and then lands Chychrun if the price makes sense or just keeps the picks if it doesn't.

In my opinion, we’re not in a playoff race and the left side of our defense is essentially set. Chiarot and Chychrun could both play the right side but I think acquiring a player like Chych is a luxury move this team cannot afford.

You never know with Yzerman but, I just don’t see that being a plausible or logical scenario for this team.

The silly thing about the Vrana situation is, they’re not even playing the guy… what’s the endgame there? I’m still confused. Playing a guy 10 min a night and scratching him in 5/8 games is really gonna help his value alright. Very poorly handled in my opinion.

I still think there are teams that will make big moves. Pittsburgh, Carolina, Minnesota (they didn’t get much better getting two washed dudes), Toronto (still always a wildcard), Edmonton (far from done), Dallas & VGK all presumably will be active over the next 2.5 days.

Dallas has the players I want but now I have to go figure out who has young RD we might pilfer.

I’m still scratching my head over the JT Miller (too soon) and OEL (paid to bail out ARZ) trades. Without those two deals, this team would be perfectly fine and probably one of the better teams in the NHL.

Pilfer. What a terrific word choice; thank you for that.

Here’s what we got to work with from those potentially still active teams:

Carolina - Scott Morrow (A)
Dallas - Christian Kyrou (B)
Edmonton - Maximus Wanner (C+)
Minnesota - Brock Faber (B+), Calen Addison (B+)
Pittsburgh - nada
Toronto - Topi Niemela (A-)
Vegas - Kaedan Korczak (C+)
