Trade with Wild/Preds

Description
Another take on the leafs roster for next year. Leivo is selected by the Knights in expansion (could very well be Rychel or Leipsec as well, or even Carrick, depending who they protect).
The wild are bound to lose a good player, so instead of losing Brodin in expansion the leafs offer up their first pick, a solid RW prospect in Bracco and a LHD prospect in Neilsen. Fair value I think for Brodin.
The leafs have rumored interest in Jarnkrok as well, and while this trade may need more value from the leafs, instead of losing him to Vegas Nashville gets a decent expansion exempt winger in Soshnikov and a 2nd round pick. I know Jarnkrok has an amazing contract, so maybe the leafs may need to add more to this trade.
JVR could be on the move at the draft, and I would like to see Kapanen get a look in an offensive role with Matthews and Nylander, that line could have some real potential. Dan Girardi is also signed to give them a solid veteran on D and a right shot to fill out the top 4. Constructive comments welcome, go leafs go!

I'd much rather the Leafs make their 1st round selection on a defender like Nic Hague then complete that deal with the Wild. As it stands, you are overpaying for Brodin.

It will take that type of deal to get Brodin, as other teams will be making offers. Think other teams would offer more for Jarnkrok. But your logic is sound, expansion exempt players would be wanted by Wild/Preds.
Agree with you that Leivo will likely be selected by Vegas. Leafs don't have much NHL depth on defence. Might as well keep Marincin for a year. Is Girardi the guy the Leafs want? Either way the Leafs do have cap room for. a short term vet as you suggest.

When it comes to trades, there is almost always an overpayment. Each team wants to "win" the trade. I don't think signing Girardi would be a good idea, especially to play top pair.

Personally, I think the leafs should try to overload the opponent. I'd be loading up on offence from every direction. That was their strength last year, and based on the roster they have coming for next year, it's going to be the strength again. Play to the strengths, and score like crazy.

Don't mind the trades but doubt Kapanen is playing with Matthews unless they put a space creater on that line instead on Nylander. But that is the issue with kapanen where does he fit?? I honestly could see them trade him this off-season for a top 6 power forward maybe even enhance the wild trade if they are fearful of losing Neiderreiter and getting him to play on Matthews line.

Any non-Leaf fans are all for TOR adding Dan Girardi.

I don't get why he's a "good cheap option" now that he's been bought out. He's statistically one of the worst dmen out there. Check OwnThePuck.com.

You can bet with a savvy front office like the Leafs have that they will absolutely not be adding him. Especially with the intent of top pair usage.

This is in no way too much to pay for a proven player like Jonas Brodin. It took me a while, but I am now a huge fan of his game. He's an unbelievable skater, can play in all situations, can play both sides, and is just now realizing how much offensive potential he has. I definitely do not want the Wild to lose or trade him, but his "offer" is intriguing.

I want the Wild to get bigger and nastier, and Nielson would definitely help in that capacity. Bracco (IMO) is a boom or bust player. IF his game translates to the NHL, he's going to be a lot of fun to watch...but I consider that a sizable IF. The 1st round pick makes that a palatable gamble, and I think I would probably pull the trigger on this deal from the Wild's perspective. 3 expansion exempt players/picks carries a lot of value for the Wild right now.

I'd try and get Greenway's (the younger brother) rights and Grunderstrom instead of Bracco. Not sure how high Tor is on either of these players, so I could be way off on the ask. I just like them.

Bracco, I'm in the same boat, not sure if his game will translate. I think he'd be an outstanding player in Europe.

Certainly not an overpay, you need to give up talent to get a top 4 D nowadays, and young D take a long time to develop.

Yeah, Jarnkrok would def need more in the trade. You probably know by now I am not a huge fan of Marincin haha. Girardi is a battle tested vet that can give the leafs some good minutes in a smaller role I think, short term for sure.

I like the idea of getting Nino, although the Wild may not be willing to part with too much talent.

Just because he is at the top I am not implying top pair. He can give solid minutes in a smaller role. The leafs may want to try to capitalize while the young guns are on their ELCs (ie Chicago and Pitts first cup final was when the young stars were on ELCs) and stack up their roster with experienced vets to help in a playoff run, take a look back at those Chicago and Pitt rosters.

Also I am a leaf fan to the core, and I like the idea of Girardi, so not only do "non leaf fans" like the idea of Girardi.
