That's a huge overpay for Jenner.

Avs cap crunch is overrated and they aren’t trading Newhook who’s offensive ceiling is a lot higher than Jenner’s. Will they have to make some tough decisions coming up about non core guys like Girard, yes but that’s the nature of winning a championship.

i think the biggest thing here is you move two roster players for one in the cap crunch. Newhook and Oskars ELC will be pretty close to the 3.75M jenner is making. If anything this puts us in more of a cap crunch

Appreciate the feedback from everyone! I did this at like 2am so I'm not surprised people have critiques lol. For Jenner- yeah it's a clear overpay in a vacuum but for me personally, I'm not that high on Newhook and I don't really see Olausson ever becoming a full-time nhl player. So while 2 players involved have 1st round pedrigee on paper I'm not sure how useful they are for the Avs present and future. Foudy and Behrens are the only two prospects I'd hold on to. Combine that with Jenner being signed for 3 more years, having a great contract and being CBJ's captain I think it would take a lot.

For those saying the cap crunch isn't bad, I'd challenge you to try and put together a roster for next season that even maintains the level of the team, let alone improves the roster. I think next year is going to be very difficult.

I think that's a fair point for sure. I'm exploring ways to get better rather than just add bodies. Like yeah we could put Newhook and OO in the lineup next year but do they really have quality for a contender or are they just cheap bodies.

It is for sure but given his age, ability, cap hit and leadership CBJ would ask a lot. If there was a better center option that we could snag for that package and afford moving ahead I'd be all over that but options seem slim. I thought about Bennett and Lindholm but Idk what it would cost and if we could squeeze Lindholm in moving forward.

Fair enough, I'd be listening on him personally if I was CBJ but I think you guys will definitely improve next year. I'm also hoping Bedard lands with you guys

Jarmo was reported as explicitly not listening to offers on him despite there apparently being a lot of interest in him at the TDL. I think people who expect the Jackets should be shopping him don't understand how anomalous this season was with injuries. They rightfully should be expecting to compete for a playoff spot within the remainder of his contract and I wouldn't be surprised if they re-signed him beyond this one. He feels like the first CBJ 1000 game player to me.

I agree that the Jackets won't move Jenner for anything less than a heist, but I also think they would be VERY interested in acquiring Toews if the Avs shop him around. He'd add a lot of good qualities to a defensive corps that sorely needs them.

I doubt OO makes the team next year he needs another year in the AHL where he plays top line 1st PP time. Newhook has shown he has 2C potential but COL this with their injuries haven’t been able to do what Bednar wanted at the start of the season which was to put him between Landy and Nichushkin. That being said MacKinnon’s raise is covered by EJ’s contract expiring, Newhook gets bridged, Foudy and Meyers I would expect are going to be 2 of the bottom 6 making less than $1M, LOC gets another spot at $1.05M they’ll sign a 6th dman at probably $1M to fill out the d-Corp. The rest of the bottom 6 exactly like a team like TB will be filled out with veterans making $1M ish. The tricky interesting part is what happens with Byram’s contract, do they give him something like $4 or $5M to get a longer term deal, very possibly. If that happens the east answer as is super prevalent on CF is they move Girard for picks or cost controlled assets. Yeah the high quality $3M depth guys like Compher are gone but with MacK, Landy, Mikko, Nichushkin, Lehkonen, Makar, Toews, Manson Girard locked up and Byram and Newhook 100% cost controlled it isn’t that difficult. Yes you are counting on Newhook to ratchet it up but man sticking him between Nichushkin and Landy to studs you have to bet on your young guy.
