Just running it back seems the most likely option

Created by: Jfstompers
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2023
Published: Mar. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm going with Soderblom starting in GR and Kasper and Edvinsson making the roster. Kasper maybe a stretch and if it is Soderblom then Accari can move to Center. We can also move a wing in the off-season, Zadina getting a change of scenery deal or Kubalik because of his low cap hit to a cash strapped team could be options. Myers is a cheap option to fill the Rd hole and just kick it down the road with no long term fix readily available. I assume we sign ufa vets like Accari and Hill to just fill holes.

At 10 oa I hope it's a center Dvorsky/Moore/Leonard/Danielson and with the Islanders pick at about 20 maybe Lukas Dragicevic who fits a need at Rd and seems an yzerman mold dman.

Soderblom starting goalie might be tough, not sure how much experience he has, or if he shares gear with his brother in Chicago lol

Solid post @Jfstompers

I continue to think about how Fabs doesn't have a true spot in the lineup and at $4M he needs to play middle 6 or be traded to a team that can use him and give him a spot in the top 9 as he has all the skill to be there so yes Kubs or Zadina would need to be moved.

Chariot moving to RD and being in the top 4 makes me very weary.

I would keep Kasper down in GR and let him be 1C there with Sods flanking him and they can develop together similar to how Veleno and Berger did.

Acciari and Hill would be great signings to kick the can down the road another year to start to form some longer term deals and plug/play some cheaper prospects once Ray and Mo's deals kick in.

I'm not sold Kasper would be ready but it seems a debate so I just entertained it. They seem to be doing everything they can not to bring Elmer back up so I just went with it. I hate Chairot on the right , well on the left too but we painted ourselves into a corner so he's going to be out there no matter what at this point. I'm hesitant to put him on the third pair with Edvinsson but I think he ends up there depending on what else we do at Rd. If they don't bring Edvinsson up they better get someone on the right with some offense because Walman on the pp is a disaster and hroneks puck moving ability is already missed.

Yeah, I'm even debating whether Edvinsson plays in DET right now unless an overhauled top 9 F happen where some bigger contracts and more offensive players come in. I don't want to waste Edvinsson's ELC years on a team that doesn't make the playoffs, that would not be smart.

For RHD I like a couple of players that fit the need -- Neal Pionk, Sean Walker/Durzi, Damon Severson. But I think stop gaps could be Jeff Petry, Tyler Myers, Tyson Barrie, Justin Faulk. Drafting a RHD in the 1st this year will need to happen.

I'd honestly do this trade from the Wings perspective. Myers has only 1 year left then he's off the books. He fills a big hole at RD for the short term. Detroit can afford his cap hit. Gain draft value. Can eat half his salary at next years deadline and flip him for a 4th round pick, getting that 4th we gave up back if Detroit isn't a playoff team.

I think pionk or walker would be a good add depending on the cost. Drafting a Rd probably happens but I hope it's with our later 1st rounder. I hate to pass up a high end forward that we could get with that early pick.

Totally agree with you. '23 1st (NYI) needs to be a RHD prospect and the '23 1st (DRW) has to be the best FWD available.

The problem with Kasper as a #1C is he won't have the offensive output of a #1C.

I don't love Kasper as much as most people do. I think his offensive is suspect too. I hope I'm wrong but let's play him and see. I agree he isn't a 1 center unless something unexpected happens.

What if the NYI 2023 1st is used to get a center like Lindholm then use Detroit 1st on a RHD? Like Reinbacher because I don't see Yzerman drafting a sub 6' dman.

I'm also not sold on Yzerman trading for Myers with how meticulous he is I think if he wanted him he would've been part of the Hronek trade. But this is much more realistic than giving up a 2nd to get Myers.

Since this is the Vancouver 2023 pick, it's before the bonus payment. I definitely would take this, but did you intend it to be pre-bonus?

Yeah I could live with it I guess depending on the trade target. I hesitate a bit because I just don't think when we pick at 9 or 10 or 11 that Reinbacker is the best player we could draft. I just think guys like Moore, or Dvorsky are just better prospects.

I would be ALL over this! Or vise versa, trade the NYI 1st++ for a RHD that fits the timeline better like Rasmus Anderson or similar/slightly worse as a top 4 controllable (3-6 years) and draft the best OFF player available with the DRW 1st this year.

I feel VAN is giving up a 2nd or 3rd straight up to move Myers before bonus payout. If after bonus payout and even minor retentions ~$1M they are giving up a 3rd/4th and getting back a 5th/6th. They need to move his cap space to overhaul their roster while the Wings can take on his cap space while filling a hole at RD even just for 1 year.

Yeah but Reinbacker is gone by the NYI pick he is gaining momentum being probably the best dman in the draft.

I like the little bit I've seen of Lukas Dragicevic but I haven't really dived into him. He's set at about a late 1st. He's got size and a right shot so maybe he'll do.
