  2. Petry, Jeff ($1,250,000 retained)

Ottawa declines (even though they shouldn't).
You may get a lot of backlash from Ottawa fans who think DeBrincat is still gonna be worth a 1st + 2nd + 3rd, though lol.
Also, keep Petry away from us.

I've been saying as a Pens fan that they should trade Petry to Detroit. I personally want Zadina for him, but I don't know where Zadina's value is and how much each team would give for each player. Would it be a Petry for Zadina 1 for 1? Or would it be Petry and a pick for Zadina and a pick? Idk but I think the Pens need Zadina for youth purposes.

Detroit doesn't want Petry thanks though.

If that pick is 18 or earlier I don't know if I do it. In the twenties I probably do it.

I honestly don't think this is a bad offer.

However, I strongly believe DeBrincat will go back to scoring 40 goals again if we replace Coach DJ.

Ottawa declines for sure.

Still no bud. Not doing the Petry deal. We can sign better UFAs for cheaper. It's literally just not worth it at all for us unless there is a substantial sweetener involved.

I agree they should keep him. Coach DJ was great for helping a bad team be tough to play against. Now they have a decent team with skill that doesn't really play that style of game anymore. I think they need to transition their coach to someone who could get them to the next level.

OTT is not trading a 40 goal scorer in his prime for a early 20s first, a bust and a 2nd to a divisional rival.

Zadina for Petry 1:1 would be pretty bad even if Zadina is.... bad (I can't say it man).

It depends on how early in the twenties and who's still available. I can't see a world where we don't pick a 1st line winger and a 2nd pairing RHD with our first two picks.

Yeah I agree, would honestly rather just keep them even though Debrincat is a great young player.

Wings pass for the 3000th time, trade still makes 0 sense. Penguins add in pickering and their first this year to dump petry

Ottawa might consider Perron , 1st & 2nd. Perron could slot in place of ADB on the second line for 1 year. Perron would fit in well with Ottawa, good value contract anda complete player who has a bit of an edge.

I don't know what other Sens fans think as I have been away a bit but I'd make that trade and use the cap space left by DBC departure and some of the picks to acquire players in the Nick Paul or Connor Brown mold. Puck hounds who are great defensively and good at even strength

DeBrincat was not a need and if Norris had been healthy, it would have been even more obvious on the PP

The only thing is I'd want a different forward than Zadina... Pius Suter instead? (that Ottawa would have to re-sign)

You're not gonna reach a good deal with me. I think it'd be foolish to offer DeBrincat a 1st + 2nd and any serviceable forward.
I understand he's a top-line winger, but I'd rather not pay market price for a player who has recessed since being traded for a 1st+2nd+3rd.

Even if the first is in the 20's? I mean, he's still not a "cap dump"

I'm not calling him a cap-dump.
It depends really. Depends on whose available where and when. I think if it passes 22nd, then I'd be more accepting.
Realistically, NYI is going to get smashed in by the Hurricanes/Bruins, so it's probably going to be 17-19, which I definitely wouldn't be willing to part with.

If it helps to put in perspective my reasoning,
I imagine Red Wings use their first 1st rounder to draft a LW for the 1st line, second first rounder for the 2nd pairing RHD.

To add on, if this was Ken Holland drafting I'd also be more inclined, but Yzerman and his drafting capabilities have been phenomenal.
