That would be a pretty poor move for MTL, especially looking at the draft class. Goalies are so uncertain, even the top prospects

I don’t think any offer would make Nashville deal Askarov. I just don’t think it’s a realistic option for us, even for a deal like this

Askarov has ... character. So acquiring him at all depends on if you want to beat that out of him or you think that is what will elevate him.
If you'd rather have a Roy (passionate) than a Price (calm and collected), you're going to have to take that into consideration as far as how he will fit in your culture and how coachable he will be. If your goal is to change him, no point in even thinking about it.
To me, while I would love to have someone like that in theory, it's simply too much of a risk to justify the cost. He could be truly elite like a Hasek, but it didn't take a 1st round pick to find that out.
Cost is simply too high.

As a Nashville fan, i do it. We really need a top C prospect and we have a pretty good history drafting and developing goalies and really poor getting centers so i think we need to get one from the top of this draft if possible.

Montreal i think would require more than just Askarov.

It is really hard to pass on the potential of a top 5 pick in a draft like this.

Not worth giving up a pick that could be a key piece moving forward.

Looking at the NHL now, elite goalies are not that common, and in the east, 4 of the current 8 playoff teams don't have an elite tender (Carolina, Jersey, Toronto and Pittsburgh) and 6 of the 8 in the west don't either, (exceptions being Oettinger and Hellebuyck)

Unfortunately, a goalie is important in the NHL, but you can win without a legit top-10 goalie if you got the right pieces in place elsewhere.

You're right we would
How do you feel about the 14th OA pick ?
Plenty of good players in there still at Center.
Maybe do a swap of L'Heureux for Beck to help as insurance as Beck is a great Center known for being ambidextrous Faceoff Center among other strengths.
