Consensus trade seem to be FLA 2023 1st and Beck. Could the 1st be replaced with CGY 24/25 1st and MTL 2023 2nd (37th)?

Without Florida's 23 1st. It's in Winnipeg's best interest to move Dubois elsewhere to get that 23 first. Unless the prospects are upgraded to give Winnipeg a reason to wait 3 drafts.

If that's all Montreal offers Winnipeg will ship him elsewhere as a rental just to spite Montreal.

It wouldn't hurt the habs anyway. They could use that for something else, then pick him up in the summer. As it seems like he WILL be a habs when he hits FA.

I think it still beat any rental offer for PLD. CGY 2025 1st and MTL 2023 2nd (37OA) has more value than FLA 2023 1st, even more so given the conditions on CGY 1st.

The Jets simply won't wait until 25 for the first when they can easily get a 23 first and similar or better prospect for Dubois as a one year rental. A 2nd just isn't enough value for Winnipeg to wait that long.

They'd just move him elsewhere as opposed to waiting for a 2nd that has a relatively low chance of making it in the NHL as a regular.

I don't remember seeing a 1 year rental traded at the draft. If he's traded as a rental, it's after July 1st or at TDL for a non lottery 2024 or 2025 1st.

And like i said, conditions on the CGY 1st are good, as it could easily turn into a top 15 pick and could even be as high as 2.

I think a very high 2nd (37OA) in 2023 would be worth waiting a draft or two, even more so if WPG is starting a full rebuild. In fact, CGY 24/25 1st and MTL 2023 2nd have a higher value than FLA 2023 1st according to most draft pick value charts.

??? Are you saying that the Jets can't trade Dubois at the draft?

It doesn't matter if you like the value of the trade or not, Montreal has no leverage to make Winnipeg take the deal.

If there's no 1st in 23, then the Jets look elsewhere I'd imagine.

A trade needs to work for both sides and Montreal isn't the only team Winnipeg can trade with.

They could. I said it's very unlikely. I don't remember it ever happening. Rental value is usually higher at deadline because of the lower cap hit.

I'm all about a fair trade, but if the best offer at the draft is a late 2023 1st and a prospect similar to Beck, why would MTL give FLA 2023 1st?

I still believe CGY 24/25 1st + MTL 2023 2nd + Beck beat any offer for PLD, and that's all MTL has to do. Beat the best offer.

Yeah, that's cool. It doesn't matter to the Jets where they trade him, they just want the best return.

Short answer: No unless it’s the 24 first with no protection
