If we assume Nickel was never making the show, sure, we won. If we assume the NCAA kid isn't going to sign with us, no, we lost.

Seems odd though that a team with a noted shortage at RHD traded away so many RHD in the system this year and acquired so many centers.

Might work out for both teams.

While neither of these 2 have made a clear case to get a contract I voted for Pittsburgh because Nickl has 1 more season to show something while Caulfield is on the clock with August15th UFA time approaching. Can see a team trying a 1 year contract to see what he does in the AHL but seems to me he would want 3 years and will probably wait for August if he does not get it.

I think it's a fair trade.

Nickl is a RHD, which has slightly more value than any other skating position, as they tend to be rarer. That said, Caulfield has better stats so far, so maybe he has a better shot at making the NHL.

Frankly, I think if either one makes the AHL next season it will be impressive.

Since it is very likely neither player will have any real impact on their respective clubs, I have to call this one a fair deal.
