From a CBJ perspective I like your thinking except for the Cole add? We are already giving up a 1st and a 2nd. The Tanev piece I am not overly enthused about but swapping Gubranson makes sense, but then you add Jake Bean (understood he is decent but from Calgary). So adding Sillinger is overkill, if we are talking Lindholm then we are getting there but I would probably need to add a kicker for that deal.

Why exactly is it important to get Price's money off the books? It is insured so I believe 85% is covered, we don't need the cap space, we are one of the richest teams in the league and if we need to we can use the LTIR overage to exceed the cap by 10.5 mil. I see no reason for it to be "important to get off the books"

I don't care. Huberdeau retained for a first and no prime assets ? Galgary is getting fleeced. Just have to make the money work around Hubby's contract

I read last night that Calgary lost by 1 goal 30 times this year.

Maybe no need for such an overhaul

Having Price's LTIR contract does that without retention on Huberdeau, since both contracts are 10.5 mil. Effectively allowing us to add Huberdeau for 0 cap if we were a cap team

Good point. Would you spend to the cap next season? I mean, the D core isn't remotly ready for playoffs action, would you still spend to push? Un less you would take on someone else bad contract for picks?

all of these involve way too many pieces. it's tempting to move everyone and get 100 1sts this year but it's just not how the league works

I mean, we could push for a spot pretty easily. If we trade for PLD and sign Dumba then all we need is the goaltending to fall in place.

I don't. Boston isn't slowing down. Toronto either. Tampa could fall, but I wouldn't bet against them. Florida could still be there. Buffalo is pushing. Ottawa is pushing. Detroit is pushing.
Do you see Montreal over 4 of them?
Also, any of Mtl's rookie D could hit the famous sophomore wall. Look what happened to Raymond and Seider in Detroit. They didn't had bad seasons, but no progression from their terrific rookie campaign. If there is too much expectation on rookies to follow up on good first seasons, disappointment is to happen.
My two cents anyway.

Boston could fall hard with their aging core
Toronto will be good but could make major changes in the offseason if they have another 1st round exit.
Tampa is already on the down swing
Florida is barely hanging on
Buffalo and Ottawa are a bit better than we are but if we add PLD and Dumba we catch up quickly

It is true the Atlantic is the toughest division in the league
