Saros Vejmelka

Created by: HCSG
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 14, 2023
Published: Apr. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
What would it take to get Philly to bite on Carter while they burn their house down?

Buyout Granlund already, FFS.

Dump trades for Petry and Ruuta, although Olofsson is probably pretty good for the Pens.

Think Nashville is willing to go Full Rebuild and take picks for Saros?

I feel like Clifton and Dumba both can probably get more than what I've got them for, but who knows. Add some term if need be.

Futures are bollocks while Crosby's under contract and Malkin's a PPG player. Burn all the fuel you can getting mileage out of this core. GMRH thought picks mattered, but they don't.

why are you trading 2 3rds for a cap dump on a salary with one season left on the deal, just buy the contract out.
Trading your best goalie prospect, a 1st and a 2nd for even a great goalie doesn't make sense
Nashville would never do that
Trading Petry who is a good player and 2 2nds for oloffson makes no sense at all.

Can’t see the pens trading first rounders past next years draft. They are in for a rough rebuild

The buyout wouldn't save them anything against the cap, only real dollars.

Think this is the case with all age 35+ contracts, essentially buyout proof.

Sergei Murashov...he's PIT's best goalie prospect. HECK of a steal in the 4th round. Just like Shesty and Sorokin. Let him stay in Russia developing until this team is ready to bring him over.

Murashov is great but that doesnt take away from blomqvist, you can get vejmelka for a lot cheaper that too they wont ask for a 1st+ and if they were i wouldnt give up that much capital for a position that is as replaceable as goalie

Yes, but it's only for one season, 3.5M isn't going to hurt a ton. Keep your picks

Oh, I'm not saying pay the picks to move him, I'm just saying a buyout doesn't do the Pens anything. They'd spend the same amount of money and now have a roster spot to fill.

So, what do we think NSH might need to give Saros up? Or is that just a non-starter, and PIT needs to look elsewhere?

I don't really feel the need to explain stuff like dumping Carter and Petry. If you know you know, if you don't, whatever. Those picks aren't better than $10M in cap space for a team like PIT and there are flat out not a lot of options at all to take out this trash.

If the ARZ trade doesn't need Blomqvist, maybe adding him to the NSH trade makes that more serious?

Yeah but I'd rather pay for nothing then pay for someone that makes the team worse and slower every night and replace him with a prospect who will be ready next year

To each their own I guess, I just don't believe paying for nothing is a good option. You can still get a young player into the lineup, just stick Carter in the press box and play him if there are injuries. Better to have someone with experience who can step in when there are injuries than rely on another young inexperienced player. Just have to utilize Carter differently in those scenarios.

It's not about getting Philly to bite - it's about Carter waiving.

A first, 2nd, and Blomqvist for that return is a pretty sizeable overpay

Because buying the contract out doesn't save money and trading him does lol

He's not going to waive, and it's not worth the picks

I know, my point is buying out the contract doesn't save any money - so not sure why you suggested buying him out. It doesn't really help.

Hypothetically if he did waive this trade is 100% worth it

/quote]

It's a non-starter. NSH has absolutely no desire to trade their best player.

Hypothetically if NSH were to trade him, make one of those 1sts a 2023 pick, and add one more piece like Pickering or another 2nd. NSH adds a B prospect or a 4th, if its Pickering. PIT can keep DeSmith or try to send him elsewhere, if they want.

You know Carrick would get claimed if you tried to send him down, right?
