OH! Treliving is gone! FInally, it's about time!!!
Yeah. Pretty exciting for Calgary. I think they might shake some stuff up, wont knock the tree down. But probably change some stuff. As a hockey fan, excited to see some maybe big moves this off season!

Backlunds upside has already been found. Boeser either hasn't or is not where his last season was. His tocchet numbers disagree mostly with what you said. Sounds like you'd be on the CGY side arguing year stats and I'd be on the Van side arguing past results and recency bias.
Faceoffs and such matter but we don't want guys at his contract on our third line. He is probably not going to take top 6 faceoffs for us. And as for the 1st plus that he said, that value dropped a bunch this year with how the team underperformed.
Brocks limitations are unfortunate and I doubt his D is going to become a plus. But I think it's league wide clear that if Backlund is in your top 6 you're a losing team and if he's third line he's overpaid.
Brock if his last 2 months are real is a second line winger on a winning team.
You can't claim recency and legacy biased just for your team... You literally just said Boeser has legacy value cuz of what he's done and that under Toc he's been better. But then fully shutdown Backlund's value purely off his recency. That already dismisses this..
While I am not saying Boeser isn't like 50% of his value. I'm saying they are close. Backlund brings more to the table, his contract isn't as bad as it looks. Not as bad as Boeser's has looked.
As I said, Boeser and a project (say a Rathbone or Woo) exchanged for Backlund and a later round pick. That looks far more even for both sides than assuming Boeser is worth Backlund +
Let's be real
BOTH players are on rather unappealing contracts. As well for both players haven't preformed as well lately as you'd hoped. The entire Flames roster underpreformed. Does that mean Boeser and Hubby are roughly the same value? Hubby is making 9m+ now and only put up 60? points.. pfft. Recency biased can skew opinions. Especially if you are a fan of one team.
But this is coming from a Canucks fan, defending Backlund over our own Brockstar.
