You are really undervaluing Auston Matthews. Love how you put a condition on the pick as well. There will be no conditions on any picks in a Auston Matthews trade including protection.

That pick would need to be the 2nd or 3rd overall pick in this draft for the Leafs to even consider it. Columbus only does this if an extension is in place as well.

Auston Matthews is counting down the days to get out of Toronto. He will be on a plane the first day of next off season. You could trade him to Guantanamo Bay and he would waive his no trade rights just to get the **** out of Toronto. If you think you're getting a haul for him you are sadly mistaken, if will be a clone of the Patrick Kane / Aaron Rodgers situation at next year's deadline

Not trying to undervalue him. I know he’s in the top tier of elite centers skill-wise, but he hasn’t been able to push his team past the first round and he also only has one year. Columbus is taking a pretty huge risk with this trade.

How is CBJ taking a huge risk when they gave up nothing in value?

Your lack of awareness is showing.

Do you have the ability to understand anything outside of Toronto? Sillinger and Chinakov are highly valued young players. That second will be 34th overall, and you could take a chance on getting a higher first somewhere else if you’d like, but you’re not going to be getting multiple first round picks, in addition to young prospects for one year of Matthews.

Least fans have a reputation for being outrageously delusional, so I guess I’m not surprised.

The delusion here is that the one first round pick you offered is top 5 protected, hilarious. And on top of that, you've added a condition that if CBJ doesn't get out of the first round that turns into two 2nds? So potentially no first picks for your top line C?

Again, hilarious. And we're the delusional ones.

Maybe you don’t know this, but the little number in the lower right hand corner of the players info box is the term left on their contract. You’ll notice Matthews has a UFA-1, which means he has one year left on his deal and will be a UFA.

Remember the risk thing? There is a decent chance Columbus can’t re-sign him and he’s gone.

In that case of conditions not being met, you’ve still gotten two high-upside players age 19 and 21 with amole NHL experience already, who are both easily worth a 1st (one even being a center), plus three 2nd rounders, one of which is 34th overall - which combined would be worth a pretty high 1st. Columbus isn’t dealing this year’s top-4 pick without the guarantee of an extension- which this scenario does not propose.

There is a ****load of value there. Go read a book.

I am the far from being a Leafs fan. Matthews is a generational talent. Toronto will not give him up for nothing. I get that you think this is good value, but all other teams would offer that and more without conditions. you just don't put conditions on a player like that. It is your risk, shouldn't be Toronto's.

He’s a very good player. Elite. Not generational, sorry. He also is on a one year deal, so without an extension in place (this scenario does not propose one), you aren’t getting some Gretzky-like haul.

There are very few teams with the cap space and willingness to take on one year of Matthews. And who of them would have better young players to offer than Sillinger and Chinakhov?

When it comes to Matthews. Teams will find those Assets. He is for sure a generational talent. Toronto instantly became better once he joined the team. Those players are good, but they are not getting you even a sniff of his jock strap. Sorry, I may be wrong, guess time will tell. I truly am trying not to be rude, but why would anyone want to waive for Columbus? Its like Winnipeg of the south and I am from Winnipeg.

Sorry, you’re just wrong. Teams can’t just “find” those assets, and if you think he’s a generational talent then you don’t know what that word means.

And maybe someday you’ll have the opportunity to visit Columbus and find out for yourself. Or maybe just Google it. Great city, growing, clean, good ownership and fan base. Ask Johnny Gaudreau, or the dozens of players who have decided to come back and retire there.

Dozens? So you are saying 24 or more players have signed in free agency (not traded because that is not always their choice) to come back to Columbus to play their final year(s) before retiring?

I said dozens of players have come back to retire there - meaning after they are done playing. I didn’t say they’ve signed dozens in FA to play their last years there.

The point is that it’s a place that players (people) like to live. It’s nothing like Winnipeg. Not even close.
