An interesting trade

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 5, 2023
Published: Apr. 19, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vancouver gets much needed cap space and a 3rd line center plus losing a long term contract. The Jackets get a 2LHD and a defensive RHD plus a high draft pick to continue the rebuild. The Jackets would likely target Nate Danielson with the Vancouver pick.

Is it a fair trade? Just gauging the idea.

Unless Vancouver wins the draft lottery, Columbus wants nothing to do with that.

I think it would be interesting, if you removed basically everything going back to Vancouver.

It would probably take more than just 11th OA for the Jackets to take on OEL's contract. This is definitely a deal that's more suitable for Chicago.

I think this would be very nearsighted from both teams. Columbus does bot want that OEL contract and Vancouver should not move their 1st

I don’t think Ekman-Larsson is bad I just don’t think Van was the right place for him. Myers is just a one year bridge to Jiricek and Cuelemans being ready for full time NHL dmen. The draft pick fits the timeline of bringing in the next wave of players to replace older more expensive players down the line.

Way too much cap going to the jackets to move up like 10 spots not to mention everything going to the canucks

Myers and OEL are both negative value players on their current contracts. OEL might warrant something in return at 50% retention (nothing near what you have here), but for his full salary, Vancouver has to pay to move him.

If that 1st round pick is Bedard, then Columbus would have to strongly consider that. Short of that, this move is terrible for them.

I really don't think the Canucks should be in the market to move their 1st. However, I think they should if this offer is on the table, so long as they don't win the lottery. Moving back from 11 to LA's pick isn't terrible, probably about 10-12 spots. Personally I don't know if that alone would be enough to move OEL's contract, but we're also getting back a useful 3C, a young forward, and a great 2nd/3rd pair defensive RHD. Deal also frees up tons of cap space, can't see the downsides from Vancouver's perspective.

I also can't help but laugh at you referring to Tyler Myers as a defensive RHD. Myers is anything but that. He's an offensively minded defensemen who looks absolutely lost in his own zone and takes way too many bad penalties. Fun fact he was actually dead last in the league this year in net penalties, which compares the number of penalties a player takes to the number of penalties they drew. Myers had a net -24 penalties, taking 30 while drawing only 6.
