High key I would like to see a deal built around a salary swap of Caleb and Seth Jones for Jeff Petry and Mikael Granlund. Chicago gets out of all long term commitments, and the Pens acquire a top pair caliber defender who could really help them for the next 3-5 years. Which is their window anyway.

Hawks don't make this deal. It probably takes the Pens 1st just to move out that $7.75m in cap hit for the next 2 seasons in Granlund and Rutta. Hawks definitely aren't sending TRad or that 3rd back. If Pens want Jones that's fine.

Interesting concept! Seth is definitely overpaid at $9.5m per, but he's still a solid player. Not sure how anxious the Hawks are to move him, but kudos for a thought provoking idea!

Oh it’s an absolutely ridiculous idea, but you have to think outside of the box to get out of some of these deals if ur Pittsburgh. There are guys who look overpaid one season, and look like fair value the next. Just ask Jeff Skinner.

The #15 pick is nothing to sneeze at. I'm not 100% sure that pick is what it would take to dump Granlund/Rutta, BUT I do however agree that including TRad is too much. If we could drop TRad and increase that DAL 3rd to the CHI 3rd or potentially the TBL 2nd...I'd consider it. Having the #15 and #20 would be nice.

Probably short a second 1st round pick in the orginal proposal. TRad at 750K is the kind of cheap contract for a productive player cap strapped teams give late 1st round picks for. The 2 Pitts dumps are 16 million in actual salary you will have to pay and 7.75 in cap for 2 more seasons which seams like an awfully expensive 1st round pick to "buy"....even #15 OA. Granlund and Rutta were not very good this season (especially Granlund where he was a 20 points over a full season pace player after the deadline) so I don't see much value in either players (you are just as likely to have a ELC kid be as productive as either at this point)

Nope. Sorry, can't get on board with Hawks adding a 2nd or 3rd back to Pens in this deal. #15 would be nice for sure, but if Pens aren't willing to pay that, Hawks take an unprotected '24 1st instead. That's a lot of cap space for 2 years for a team that needs it badly.

If they can get the pick for less, I'm all for it. But my position is that they should do everything they can to acquire more top 20 picks in this year's draft. Nobody but Reichel on the current roster is integral to the next contending Hawks team. That would be my laser focus in getting more players who could be part of the future core. If they are in the playoffs in 4 years with Oliver Moore (or whoever they get at 15) as a key player, no one is going to care that they overpaid a bit by giving up Raddysh.

I guess if your laser focused on acquiring pick #15 and are willing to sell low on TRad then this deal makes sense. I'd never make it, and I'd be surprised if Davidson did. If TRad has another 20 goal season, he could bring a 1st on his own at the TDL.
