I think it needs a better pick going to SJ since Mantha is worse more expensive. Agree with the idea of giving each player another chance under a new system, but pretty sure the defensive laziness of Mantha is the exact opposite of what Grier wants.

Sprong is a beast 5v5 and that is where the caps struggle the most, he also is a great goal scorer. As for labanc, just wanted some more speed and skill rather than mantha, im willing to pay that price to get a more complete team.

6x4.5 for a third liner is still an absurd price. Sprong has had one great year but none of his other years stack up, some of this production is from receiving power play time he wouldn't get in Washington, and his numbers on defense have been tragic in the past. His excessive cap hit would also prevent any chance that Washington would have enough money for McMichael, Sandin, and Wilson, since he's signed for 6 years on top of the already pricey move for Debrincat, who fills the same goal scoring role as Sprong except better. As for Labanc, at that point, why not just keep Mantha? Mantha (before being scratched) was playing leagues above Labanc, who's been on a downward trend for 4 years while Mantha has had solid defensive numbers and at minimum this year, was a sold defensive forward (something the 3rd line desperately needs) and has great offensive potential under a new coach. This seems, at best, like a lateral move.
