i find it highly unlikely dallas moves marchment. He chose dallas over Carolina in FA because his dad had just passed and his dad's good friend (best friend?) is on the Dallas staff. I think that friend was like a 2nd father.

Hawks probably consider this. Only hang up might be burning that 2nd retention slot on Olaffson. Kudos for a creative 3-way!

Murphy alone is worth that 1st. Retaining any part of Olaffson's contact and burning that slot costs extra imo. If Buffalo replaces Carolina's 1st with their own I think it's a done deal.

If not then they sweeten it with one of their 2nd's preferably Philly's pick at 39.

They are getting a 4th for retaining 1M on VO for a year. That is what the wild got.

Is there a reason everyone always misspell Olofsson's name as "Olaffson"? It is almost starting to seem intentional, like I may have missed the inside joke or something. haha

I think the Hawks would pass . The value is probably acceptable/fair as I would think a late first (and maybe a small add) is the likely ask for Murphy and a 4th to retain a million for a season is fair as well. Problem is that retension slot only nets a 4th and would leave the Hawks with one remaining. I would think they are saving those 2 retensions for deals where they get a first or 2nd for doing it and not a 4th. I suppose you can take back a contract like Khudobin on the Domi deal instead of retaining, but I would think the ability to retain gives you a better chance of flipping Zaitsev, Tyler Johnson, and whatever 1 year UFA's you sign so I'm not sure I am jumping at the first chance to get down to just one left.

I get that and at face value is not a bad offer. The thing is the retention slot. With only two for next season, only netting a 4th seems like they're selling low on that slot when it could net a much higher return next TDL. If the Hawks had unlimited slots then this offer would be a no-brainer.

I would just remove the pick and retention. It’s 1M, not a cap breaker
