Don’t want or need a goalie coming back.

If there is not a 1st or a high end prospect involved you have zero chance.

For the sabres those are huge moves. Sabres havent been buyers in over a decade. Also biggest moves will be growth of the young core. Sabres have so many young forwards that will be ready to make the jump that they do not need a splashy forward move. This team will make the playoffs. The sabres were third in scoring and this will be a better forward group. With healthy Sami, deffensive addition and new goalies the goals against should see huge jump.

To me, going all in is like saros, dumba and Elias lindholm.

These are just modest moves

Calgary isn't trading for olofson. They have no cap to take on a player, so AAV needs to be moving out. I could see them moving a player to Buffalo, if anything.

Mixed feelings on that Avs trade. Buffalo may be wise to sell high though. Avs would arguably be selling low on G.

Curious what Girards strengths are (I rarely get to see Avs games). The Sabres need a very good right shot defensive defenseman.
I'm thinking they'd prefer not to roll 4 LD's in the top four. And Mittlestadt plus the higher draft pick seems like a lot to pay for a 3rd pair LD.

He can play the right side but he's not a righty or a defensive D, so he's pretty much a mis-match if that's your pre-requisites. Small, smooth skating, transitional puck moving D with a good, active, defensive stick. He skates himself out of trouble usually rather than getting physical, though he can also actually hit a lot better than people expect for a guy his size. He just doesn't do it often as it isn't really a part of his 'natural' game. He's also not a third pair LD. The Avs don't run the D the old 'traditional' way. They very much rotate their D. Girard puts up over 20 mins a night which are not 3rd D TOI numbers. He's also good for 30 pts a year with no 1st PP unit time. Also not third pair numbers. Even so he's not a good fit for Buffalo as they are already set at LD if you're going natural sides for handedness, and he doesn't fill their needs. If I were looking for negatives in his game to go against the positives it's puck turnovers and not effectively clearing the puck out of the D zone sometimes (when it needs hammering out of the zone off the glass to relieve pressure) but in mitigation the turnovers come mainly from being a puck carrying D. Those types of guy will always turn it over more as they tend to be in possession of it more. He at least doesn't do it by shooting it straight into people's shins all the time like Barrie used to!

Middlestat barely plays center, he shifts to the wing. Also since when was he top 6?
