Bears doing gymnastics of the cap variety

Created by: KrakenTheCode

Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2023

Description
I'm not a Bruins fan, but their offseason is shaping up to be quite fascinating. They're going to be under a serious cap crunch due to performance bonuses due to Bergeron and Krejci, and are facing a number of major departures via retirement or free agency.

I made this ACGM with an eye towards keeping the team competitive, as they have a lack of draft picks due to trades made for their all-in push. I also made the assumption that Bergeron and Krejci retire, though it isn't out of the realm of possibility that one or both return. To keep the team competitive, I kept the Ullmark-Swayman tandem intact, as good goaltending gives the team a chance to win every night. With limited cap room, Swayman and Frederic both got bridge deals. I re-signed Bertuzzi to a long term deal, as the Bruins gave up a lot to get him and he fit in very well upon his arrival. Hall, Forbort, and Reilly were traded to clear cap for this, Stecher was brought in as an affordable third pairing RHD, and I filled out the roster with prospects.

As always, thoughts and helpful feedback is appreciated. Cheers!

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (CAR)
CAR
  1. Hall, Taylor
Additional Details:
The framework of this trade is similar to the Bjorkstrand deal. Carolina weaponizes their cap space to acquire Hall as a scoring winger, and Boston gains some badly needed cap flexibility.
2.
BOS
  1. Vaakanainen, Urho
Additional Details:
Originally this trade was supposed to be Forbort for Future Considerations, a la the Kulikov deal, but I borrowed this version of a trade from another ACGM. Vaakanainen gets a change of scenery and serves as a more affordable 7th LD for Boston as opposed to Zboril.
ANA
  1. Forbort, Derek
Additional Details:
Anaheim does another Kulikov-style trade and gets a serviceable defenseman to either help their young players develop or serve as a trade chip.
3.
BOS
    Future Considerations
    CHI
    1. Reilly, Mike
    2. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
    Additional Details:
Standard salary dump trade; Boston gets under the cap and Chicago gets another draft pick.

For a non-B's fan, this is pretty well thought out and definitely realistic. Kudo's! And the Hawks would probably consider that deal.

If you could have had it for FC, we would have let you know about the every so agreed upon Vaaks for Forbort

I get that its not that Boston wants Vaakainen back (outside a few fans of his) but there is a very strong LHD core coming up in Anaheim very soon, and Vaakainen has run out of time to prove himself here. In a shallower system he will likely get play time again, and he has the advantages of being cheap and knowing Boston's system.

Why should any Eastern Conference team help the Bruins with their cap? Hall has M NTC so he isn't going to a poor team with cap. Even at that he certainly did not play up to 6m contract the season.
Canes can sign a just a good player for 6m.

I think a move that makes sense is swayman for a young ELC center or a first this year.
I could see LA doing that. Goaltending has been their weakness.

    This is pretty well done.

Signings are more or less accurate, although thats a lot of money and term for Bert (which he will be demanding)

you could prob fetch a better return for Hall, why does everyone on ACGM have forbs for vaak swap? Lol, might be better off buying out Reilly rather than wasting a 3rd

Those 6 D are pretty solid for next year althoguh Lohrei prob isnt ready yet, I like the kids implemented in the forwards tho
