Conor Bedard

Description
I think if Washington wins the lottery, it will drastically change the short term trajectory of this team. Not just because of Conor Bedard, but because UFA's will be much more interested in signing with the Capitals. Which means the Capitals would have a distinct advantage in free agency. With many players not only looking for a good deal, but a team that can potentially get them championship rings. We know the core players of this team are hungry for another run. Conor Bedard would not only individually improve the team, but his acquisition would attract free agents to sign long or short term with the Capitals on a discount. In regards to the team, the trades are conceptual and the free agency signing are just examples of the kind of team friendly deals we may have if Bedard lands with Washington. The re-structured team looks absolutely deadly. The level of depth on display is unreal. Along with having two high upside goaltenders that can split the workload. This team looks like a legitimate contender. Ovechkin-Bedard duo could become the deadliest veteran-rookie duo since Lemeuix-Crosby.

If only that Anaheim team had better lottery odds.

Canucks say yes.

1. Play OV and Bedard separately
2. No way uou get Bertuzzi that cheap
3. You're on crack if you think Orlov will sign that contract, double the money for even a 10% chance

All trades are rejected.

Both Bertuzzi and Orlov get far more AAV then that. Or neither would've been dealt from Detroit and Washington respectively.

Not a chance they do that. Holland wouldn't trade Broberg for Chychrun, remember? He's not moving him for Strome & Lindgren.

Broberg is a tweener, he’s not a full time NHL player. Strome is a 6’3 210 pound centre who scored 65 points.

Holland would make that trade in a millisecond and so would every GM in the league. Broberg is completely replaceable.

Good grief.

Oh and the trade to the Yotes involved Holloway or Yamamoto plus a first round pick. Not just Broberg.

You don't know that. The only thing we know for sure is that Holland refused to include Broberg.

And there's no need for Edmonton to go after slow-skating Strome. They have the best center depth in the league already.

I completely disagree with your "tweener" take on Broberg too. He's being slow played just like Bouchard was 2 years ago - is he a tweener too? Of course not.

1) you have zero idea if Broberg pans out..absolutely zero.
Right now he ain’t trending anywhere near Bouchard.
2) We do know what the Yotes wanted because Ottawa paid for it.
3) Strome doesn’t have to play centre or he can be the 3rd line centre or he can be a winger & move to RNH spot, or Kane spot or Foegele spot.
Point is they would trade Broberg for Strome in a millisecond.

I won't pretend to know the future, but I can say with confidence that Broberg is trending significantly ahead of Bouchard as a 2-way defender. He doesn't have the offensive upside Bouchard does, but he's much better on his own end. Compare Bouchard's on-ice numbers 2 years ago with Broberg's this year and you'll see. Both players were 21 years old in this view.

CF%: PB 57.29 > EB 51.86
SF%: PB 56.48 > EB 48.33
GF%: PB 52.73 > EB 38.46
xGF%: PB 58.65 > EB 48.20
SCF%: PB 58.33 > EB 47.27
HDCF%: PB 59.13 > EB 45.45

Again, there are no guarantees in life, but Broberg is showing very well in the limited minutes he's getting right now - far better than Bouchard did (despite 38% greater offense) at the same age.

*********

Strome wouldn't get 1st unit PP time in Edmonton, so he'd be wanted for his 5v5 scoring. He scores at a similar level to Warren Foegele, despite Strome playing with better linemates.

Strome: 0.98 G/60, 2.26 P/60, 69.64 IPP
Foegele: 0.93 G/60, 2.09 P/60, 77.14 IPP

IPP is individual points percentage, which tells how much each player was involved in the scoring while on ice. The numbers above tell us that Strome's linemates scored 3.25 G/60 while Foegele's linemates scored just 2.71. Ergo, Strome had more help. I guess that explains why its his secondary assists that push him above Foegele, if you look at primary points only Foegele had more, 1.70 v 1.62.

Would you trade Broberg for Foegele?
