Canes pass. Marner is good but we need a balanced roster

Yall added P kane? Might as well keep Marner. Your team will be better offensively and defensively

That’s probably enough for TK, might be missing a later round pick or lower level prospect since Carolina’s first and second will be late in each round.

a. How does Carolina fit Marner under their cap?
b. Hawks not taking on over 4 million in cap and moving up only 5 spots.

Chicago has a surplus of young goalies ready to get a crack at the NHL next year. Doubt they would be interested in taking another goalie off the Leafs' hands.

The Marner return is okay I guess, top 6 forward and top 4 defenceman on relatively cheap deals. I would just want more you know. If your trading a superstar you would expect to get a lot back.

Carolina has 24 million in cap space heading into the summer. They don't really have any guys on expiring deals who could command a raise. They should have more than enough to add Marner if they wanted to boost their star talent and if the Leafs were shopping him.

Leafs fans never cease to amaze with posting the how about the Hawks take a craptacular goalie owed 6 million dollars to move up 5 or 6 spots into the bottom of the 1st. Unlike the Mrazek trade where the Hawks were actually looking for a goalie to fill an NHL roster spot (as they had none), the move was 13 spot up in the draft, and the Hawks had a new GM trying to put his stamp on a direction of a complete rebuild as part of 3 draft day trades into the 1st round....The Hawks have a full asortment of their own goalies in place, they are not paying that price to move a handful of slots, and they have plenty of draft capital so no urgency to do something.

Yes, but in the 24 million if they get Marner, they now have to get a starting goalie, which should cost them 5 million and then flesh out the rest of the lineup with 9 million. but is the 2nd year where Aho is looking for a new deal along with several outher RFA's that it becomes a problem.

Including Pesce in that trade means shipping out 4 million. So its really only an extra 7 million, which leaves them with 17 for a goalie and to round out their roster (honestly they could probably have 10 million left over). I don't think they will spend a lot on a goalie as I think they believe in Kochetkov, and I could see them signing a cheaper guy like Brossoit and running a tandem until Kochetkov can fully embrace the starters role.

As for their pending UFAs and RFAs, Aho will command a raise, but I don't think it will be very high. I can't see him getting above 11, if even that, which is really only a 2.5 million dollar raise. Teravainen may walk if they have Marner, or they could maybe even move him. He had a down year by his standards so I doubt he sees a raise. Jarvis and Necas are really the only guys I could see getting a significant raise, but the Canes should be able to manage that. Unless they have insane years next year they shouldn't command too much.

The pick going back to Toronto in the Murray trade would be the Chicago '23 3rd, not the '23 2nd. Common mistake.

Right. Wouldn't the Bos 1st and Chi 2nd be like 4 picks apart? How is that enough to take on Murray?

Carolina has been looking for a game breaking talent for years. Rumours of Nylander going there in year's past. Marner would fit in perfectly with Svech and in Rod's system.

100% agreed. This is another issue with the hard salary cap, players making lots of money, you will never get the full return no matter how great of a player they are, which is pretty sad that Gary's NHL has come to this. Konecny can provide that scoring touch along with some GRIT. Him and bunts on the same line with a top 5 player in the league would be very annoying. Plus, Pesce is finally that top right handed d-man we have been looking for years. Still young-ish and I don't think he will be much to extend him. Give Brodie's extension money to him. This provides us with two capable shutdown pairs (even if Rielly isn't very good defensively). This can also help shelter Gio/Lil. Give Lil some PP2 action as well.

Mo-Pesce
McCabe-Brodie
Gio-Lil
Timmins

Maybe Our 2024-25 D-Core:
Mo-Pesce
McCabe-Lil
UFA-Timmins?

I think Brodie would take around the same money or a 2-3 year extension.

You OBVIOUSLY don't understand how grand Murray's buyout math works...it's ONLY 5.3 million real dollars so clearly something a team should be willing to pay to move from top of the 2nd round to bottom of the first

carolina's cap isnt messed up in 23-24 by adding marner but in 24-25 would be. We should be looking in the the PPG player thats in the 9 million and less range.
