When you have fans from both sides declining a trade, you know it’s interesting.

Honestly we’ll done. There’s a case for both teams to accept. There’s also one for both to decline. Certainly interesting.

Personally, I think both teams decline because they are so important to each of their teams.

KD won't accept that. He may accept a 2nd for Baileys dump.

I’d take that as a Jets fan. I love Ehlers but you need to give to get and if it hurts it usually means it’s fair

The thing that we need to understand about the whole Bailey dump idea is that CHI doesn't want Bailey. They want the pick. The pick needs to be worth taking on such a contract. That proposal is not worth it. So CHI declines. No biggy if NYI doesn't want to pay a 2nd, though. I get it.

The Hawks need cap space and NHL-quality players. Bailey is only owed 3.5 million in actual dollars for the upcoming season. A 3rd attached to Bailey probably would've worked better but the Isles don't have one for the next two years.

CHI or any team that is willing to discuss a deal hold the leverage in any Bailey deal. The alternative outcome is you have to buy him out or bury him in minors again for the year.

Alternatively, as of right now, the Hawks are about $22MM under the cap floor without any really significant free agents to resign. Taking on Bailey makes up a big chunk of that gap without costing as much in real dollars, and there is value in that. Additionally, while Bailey is no longer the player he used to be, he would probably be a good veteran dude to have around Bedard.

$22m won't be hard to pickup, there are a ton of teams wanting to shed cap and the teams that can accomodate hold the leverage. Its always been the case in the cap era. Also plenty of veteran guys who would take a chance on a short term prove it deal to make some money if need be.

Yes, but the value in Bailey is the $5MM cap hit that only costs them $3.5MM in salary. If they're not going to be competitive this year, saving $1.5MM plus adding a couple of picks makes sense.

Taking on bad contracts does make sense I agree, but not for peanuts in the dollar. Its the value we don't agree on and since CHI hold the leverage they can hold tight.
