He still has the 23-24 and 24-25 season before his contract is over. I think the canes would do that, even if they can’t resign him as the are cup contenders. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won the cup in 24 and 25 if they make this deal

Who knows how much the cap will raise. They could have the cap. They would right against but it could work. And who knows, maybe players take team Friendly deals. It can work, it just may be a little bit tricky

As much as the Canes would love to have Marner, he makes no sense as a target. I mean, they would either have to trade him next off season, or trade a couple core members just to be able to keep Marner for 1 extra year. And for a team built around cap flexibility, spending 6 assets on Marner, for 1 run at the cup before being forced to move him again is just bad asset management. Hell, they are halfway to the cup this year whilst missing 3 key top 6 forwards, and have a pretty good chance at the cup this year. The Canes don’t need Marner, and acquiring him would be bad asset management and a luxury they are really unable to afford in the long run.

Canes cannot afford it. Next summer, half the team is up. They can't be spending the better part of 11 million on a player that is going to turn into a pumpkin when the playoffs come around.

How about instead of Samsonov Sabres offer you that second round pick for Liljegren? They could use him a lot more.
