Yes, a one year rental who is probably looking for $14 mil and can't score in the playoffs is the going rate for 7 years of control of a player who has basically out performed Connor McDavid in his Junior career.

That’s true, who knows how good Connor Bedard could be in the NHL, he could even be as good as Auston Matthews!

Yes, and at a fraction of the price over the next 7 years.

Zero chance Hawks do that for a pending UFA, even as good as Mathews is (well at least in the regular season). Murray requires a decent 2nd to dump regardless of how many times a day he gets AGM'ed to the Hawks for the privledge of moving up 6 spots in the draft. The 24 Hawk pick is likely a top 5 pick and Matthews does little to alter that. Reichel is at the least a very good middle 6 wing and easily could be a top 6 wing. Phillips is NHL ready and should have a long look this season. #19OA in this draft should be a NHL player with a decent chance of being a top 6 middle pairing player. No chance the Hawks do that

Thank you..
But leafs fans think they’re getting screwed. They’ll get screwed when he walks for nothing after July 1.

Leaf fans think they are getting screwed if we want more than moving up 6 spots in the draft to take Murray.

Matthews as a free agent MIGHT be a conversation depending on how guys develop, but honestly I probably wait until the following free agency class as we likely have more questions than answers with our prospects. Until we have prospects starting to fill a handful of top 6 F & top 4 D, we should not be looking at expensive free agents much less giving premium rebuilding picks for 1 year rentals.

Agreed

Hossa was almost 30 when he signed, why not get in front of it?
