Marner is an elite playmaking selke nominated winger. I guess you wouldn’t want that playing with 40 goal kempe and sniper fiala. The kings have a lot of assets and cap space to afford a move like this
See, this is the fatal and inescapable flaw in your premise that you and every single other Toronto fan trying to shoehorn Mitch Marner into the Los Angeles roster seems unwilling to accept: far from having "lots of cap space to afford a move like this," the Kings have
LESS THAN ZERO cap space to afford a move like this. In a nutshell, that's because of Marner's nearly $11 million cap hit, which has an even greater effect than that because in order for us to sell off enough assets to equal that cap hit, we have to send back three or four players, which means that Marner's nearly $11 million cap hit becomes that PLUS the cap hits of the two or three roster players we have to replace that went back to Toronto.
Let's look at the indisputable reality. Right now, the Kings have 11 forwards, 5 defensemen and 2 goaltenders on the roster, all of whom can be expected to play next season. Let's add to that RFA Tobias Bjornfot, because he fills one of our open LhD slots and his Qualifying Offer is less than $900,000. The aggregate of the cap hits of those 19 players plus $700,000 in dead cap is just under $77 million! Adding in Marner's cap hit and the cap hits of the three players to fill out a 23-man roster and you'll exceed $91.5 million at the very least. Now sell off the three or four players necessary to get down under the anticipated $83.5 million cap and give you value for Marner (not including RFA Gabe Vilardi, whom we have to include in a Marner trade because he doesn't figure in the numbers I've quoted) and you've created another three or four holes in the roster which have to be filled. And this doesn't even begin to address the problem of upgrading our #2LhD hole, which will cost in excess of $4 million, in all likelihood.
The entire idea of Marner to Los Angeles is an idiotic game of suicidal self-whack-a-mole.
