The salary cap won't be $85 million this coming season. Even the rosiest prediction isn't for more than $84 million.
Chicago won't accept two fifths for buying Murray out. They'll want a deal like the Mrazek trade -- the Boston first for one of their later seconds. A fifth in 2024 or 2025 has no significance to a team which has SEVEN picks in each year ahead of them.
Necas is 3 years younger than Nylander, when his current deal (which is less than half as expensive as Nylander's) expires at the same time as Nylander's he'll still be under team control, when his current deal expires, he can be re-signed to a bridge deal which will probably still be less than Nylander's current deal and he'll STILL be under team control, and he looks to be potentially almost as good as Nylander. Carolina wouldn't entertain this idea for more than a minute.
Acciari, Kampf, Schenn and Samsonov all deserve and will get more on their next contracts.
Why would Kerfoot take a pay cut on what will be his last significant contract?
Mayfield will sign for more money and much more term.
Barbashev is young enough that signing him to that contract makes sense, but Tatar will be 33 years old at the start of next season; committing that much money to him, even for only two seasons, seems wildly imprudent. Wouldn't giving Holmberg a roster spot make a lot more sense?
