Did you whack Krug in the woods like Adriana? Or did he retire to open a B&B? squinty smile

Edit: Oh hell, I totally missed the buyout. I'm sure we can find a deal to move him, man.

Jets aren't trading Connor at the draft so 2023 picks cannot be used.

If we move any of our forward prospects, I’d rather move Neighbours than Bolduc honestly.

Krug will be hard to move. The sooner the better but I think he might need good picks attached to move. That contract is brutal.

Not every contract where a player has a down year is brutal, folks. Even in his worst season, Dom still had him worth like 3.5M for the season, and he loves to trash thw Blues. Krug will likely bounce back to some extent. Someone with a bad power play could go for him, and luckily that describes most of the teams he'd waive for. Someone gave a 1st+ for two months of Chiarot. I'm mildly confident Krug can be moved without selling the farm. Nobody said it would be easy, but it's not a pure cap dump.

Saad isn't a problem lol Good player with a perfectly fine contract. Only so much money and roster spots though so get trading him to make space for other guys.

Krug didn't have a bad year. He had a bad season after a bad season after an ok to bad season. He isn't good at playing defense.

Krug's advanced numbers 5v5 for the last 3 years:
Ranked based on defenseman with 500+ min
2022:
Expected Goals: 4.6 (55th) (2nd on Blues)
Corsi: 49% (123rd) (1st on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Goals Against per 60: 3.15 (196th) (6th on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Shots Against per 60: 60.4 (170th) (5th on Blues)
On-Ice High-Danger Shots Against per 60: 3.31 (196th) (6th on Blues)

2021
Expected Goals: 3.6 (80th) (1st on Blues)
Corsi: 49% (126th) (2nd on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Goals Against per 60: 2.94 (194th) (6th on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Shots Against per 60: 58.0 (159th) (5th on Blues)
On-Ice High-Danger Shots Against per 60: 1.9 (67th) (2nd on Blues)

2020
Expected Goals: 3.4 (35th) (2nd on Blues)
Corsi: 48% (116th) (3rd on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Goals Against per 60: 2.45 (131st) (6th on Blues)
On-Ice Expected Shots Against per 60: 54.1 (113th) (4th on Blues)
On-Ice High-Danger Shots Against per 60: 2.25 (132nd) (6th on Blues)

So it seems to me he is good at controlling play and is a positive to scoring but is a total liability in the defensive zone. That could be valuable but not at 32 years old with 4 years left on 6.5MM a year.

Bruh.... in no way, shape or form did Krug have any sort of bad season in 21-22. Like what????

And on ice stats are NOT individual stats. Especially with no context. Instead of reading stats, try watching hockey.

Well no. He was one of the worst players in the NHL at preventing goals 5v5. I don't have the time or inclination to watch every hockey player every night. Therefore, I have to look at stats to compare people. You know, like every sport does all the time.

I assume your data is his 9 goals and 43 points in 2021? Those numbers look good until you look at it 5v5. Those numbers are 4 goals and 21 points. Pretty decent from a defenseman. But then again, I never said he wasn't able to pull his weight offensively. He is bad at playing defense. You know, his main job.

Oh yeah, and he's paid 6.5MM for the next 4 years...

You're saying the guy who was +23 was one of the worst players in the NHL at preventing goals 5v5. Seriously? You're gonna go with that?

As for his points, are we pretending he didn't miss 20 games?

Bruh... again, in no way, shape or form was he bad in 21-22. I have no idea where you'd even get that idea.

I already explained why he was bad in 2021

There were only 18 defenseman in the NHL (500+ min) who were worse than Krug at preventing goals.

As for his +/-, that's not a good stat for measuring how good a player is and you know it. That's like saying a pitcher in the MLB is good because he has 10 wins and only 2 losses.

But if it matters to you, we can again look to his advanced stats to see (based on his overall numbers) what is his expected on ice goal differential (+/-). In 2021 his it was +26. His expected on ice goal differential was.... -4. So it seems his positive +/- is more about the guys he played with and not his contributions.

Again, he is a bad defenseman on a bad contract for what are likely the worst years of his ability (in terms of age). You can like him if you want, but the numbers don't.
