Paying WAAAAY too much for Petry. He's no longer what you seem to think he is. Also, I highly doubt he'd agree to return.

Petry just moved from MTL bc he didn’t want to play in Canada and wanted to be closer to family…
Doubt he’s willing to go back to EDM but I’d love to clear his contract

Devils have zero need for Foegele. EDM just trying to move cap hits they don't want as if good teams would eat them for them, let alone pay for the honor.

Sabres don't need small forwards, plenty of our own are on the way.

There's two parts here.

1) People on this board have zero clue on Petry. The just think, "Older guy." The reality is, if anyone actually watched, which I know EDM fans didn't watch many Pens games is that yes, he did NOT have a good start to the season. The first half of the season you could tell he couldn't find his footing and was struggling to adjust to his new team/system, which isn't unreasonable for players. If you watched though, his game got much better in the second half, his numbers picked up, he didn't look a step behind and his physicality picked up. Then of course he gets injured, but he still came back where he left off. If he missed no time he was pacing at around 40 to 45 points with almost no 1st unit PP time and playing 2nd pairing minutes as opposed to 1st pairing minutes as he did in MTL.

2) The Pens are not retaining on him. This isn't a bad trade per-se and yes, despite my defense of Petry, this is probably an overpay for him. Also, this trade doesn't make much financial sense for the Pens. I was a fan of Ceci's time here and wanted him back, but with this trade the Pens basically wind up spending almost the same money because of the retention. So I just don't know that this trade makes total sense for either side.
