Seems like a smarter idea to re-sign Toews and trade Girard. Value would be similar since Girard is younger and has 4 years left on his deal. Keep Toews whos in his prime and fits well with Makar and go at a few more cups

That Toews return seems a bit underwhelming compared to what we're sending for Schmaltz

Avs fans really act as if Girard is Bobby Orr with the returns they are demanding for him. It never gets old. I’d lower your expectations on a return for him or you’ll surely be disappointed.

I'd do that for the 2024 1st probably. Not this years though.

I would gladly send the LA 1st and CBJ 2nd (23 and 34) plus something like Roslovic w/ retention, Peeke or another mid pick (depending what COL would prefer) to get Toews if he's available.

But the value for Girard and toews seems off.. toews is a top 10-15 dman in the league the last 2 seasons and the value here is a 1st and 3rd.. nick shmaltz isn't a top 10-15 centre in the league and would be colorado 2nd line C but his value is 2 1sts and a 3rd.... and 3 years of term doesn't make up the difference

A 25 year old defenceman with 4 years left on his contract at a very reasonable price that can put up 35+ points can at least get a 1st and a 3rd which is what you have Toews getting.

All I’m saying is keep the better player in Toews, trade Girard for the same value that Toews was traded for in this post, and use that $5m in cap to help re-sign Toews and then you can still acquire Schmaltz for the same price here (I think Colorado overpaid here but any team getting Schmaltz is going to overpay). Just seems smarter to keep the better players while the team is still trying to win now

I didn’t make this ACGM, just pointing out a fact about Avs fans constant delusional demands for Girard.

Toews is definitely better then Girard but I don’t think the Avs can afford his next contract and they have Bo plus I don’t think Girard gets much more then a 2nd so I keep the younger cheaper Girard and use Toews to get the 2c they badly need.

Reports are Byram wants Toews job; the Avs need to pick one. Before paying Byram the max, I think the Avs give him a one year deal to prove he can play a full season. I see a very low chance he gives them a three year, compromise deal as many default to on CF.
