I really do want the flames to go after Nylander but I’m not sure they give all that up for a pending UFA, take or change the 1st out and we are getting close.

The Jackets just aren't the kind of org that's going to spend $6M on buying a late 1st.

In the Nylander trade I'd add a couple of conditional picks for the players extending on either side, instead of the 1st round pick.
For example:
* if both Hanifin and Nylander extend Toronto gets a 2nd round pick.
* If only Hanifin extends then Calgary gets a 1st round pick.
* If only Nylander extends then Toronto gets a 1st and a 2nd.

Calgary has a lot of Wingers, so they'd need to trade some of them elsewhere, just to make it work. That said, it will be a difficult and exciting trade to work with a lot of moving parts.

Conditions based on the player re-signing are no longer allowed.
