Blues aren't doing that, but I'd love it if they did.

Ehh no. Just for starters, the Blues have no cap for this.

Getting what, in terms of quality, likely results in a better return than the Sens originally gave up for Debrincat, seems very unlikely.

He came to Ottawa coming off back to back huge seasons, and came with 2 years of control. Now, he's coming off a year where his production took a pretty serious dip, and where he's owed a significant amount when it comes to his QO.

I'm not saying that Ottawa won't get a solid return for him, because they absolutely should, but I can't see a top 10 pick in this years draft being moved for him.

Patches is going to be a long-term recovery, no point in slotting him into the top-6 at this point. I would think of him more as a trade deadline acquisition. The only issue is you have to keep him on LTIR for a huge chunk of the regular season, hurting your ability to accrue space. Not as easy an answer as "just sign him".

Jets want young players and prospects that are close to NHL. They would probably ask for a package around that 1st but including a couple of prospects.

DeBrincat isn't worth the 10th overall pick alone. Blues also don't need anymore forwards who don't know or want to play defense.

Blues decline. Debrincat isn't the type of winger we are looking for
