Wings do that. I imagine the Sens would be looking for a slightly more exciting prospect than Draper Jr tho in all honesty. Not necessarily one of our top guys, but a guy like Niederbach or Mastrosimone at least

I think the Islanders 1st + Berggren should be the base of the deal for Cat. Ottawa shouldn't be accepting a pending UFA as a main piece in a deal for Cat. It just doesn't make sense based on where they are at as an organization.

A 1st and Berggren is too much. Berggren and a 2nd would be max of Berggren is involved.

I disagree. Bergrenn will be 23 shortly and he put up 28 points in 67 games as a rookie. Decent numbers and I expect they go up. But it isn't anything spectacular. He is an RFA at the end of the year, so he would have team control, which is what Ottawa will want in return for Cat. Cat is a 2 x 40 goal scorer. He is a star, scoring winger. Safely you can project him as a 30 goal scorer.

Bergrenn + the 17th overall for Cat is a good deal for Detroit and Ottawa should consider it. If I were Ottawa I would see if I can get a 3rd tossed in as well.

Like I've been saying from the start Hanas, Kubalik and 2023 1st (NYI). Kubalik steps in right away and Hanas is ranked 7th in Detroit's system and he projects as a middle 6 forward. While you're probably not going to get a superstar with the 17th pick but a top 6 forward is very likely.

Well here is my argument about Berggren. So young and still under team control and going to be cheap to sign. Unless he really really breaks out. He will likely score 20+ goals next season and put up around 50 points on Detroit. On the better offense of Ottawa could be even more. He was drafted 33rd overall but in a redraft probably 15-20. I would put a value of a first round pick of around 20+ for him. One of the benefits of acquiring him for Ottawa instead of a pick would be the time frame. He is developed and can jump into the lineup immediately. They draft a player with #17 likely 3-4 years before they are a contributor. Could be more could be less, impossible to say. The value would be a 1st (Berggren) and a second this year. That's around the value of what they would get for a trade of Cat. If they don't accept then we just happily keep Berggren and develop him more.

I still think that price is heavy, but I wouldn't hate it.

You might be right but I think it's close enough to fair.

Viktor Lodin is gone. He signed a 2 year contract with a Swedish team a couple of weeks ago thereabouts.

You also said that you would trade 9 and 17 for Laf..... Not really putting much stock in your opinion on Detroit acquiring a "star"

There was more involved in the trade involving Laf than just those 3 pieces. There were several picks going back to Detroit as well.

BUT I also adjusted my value assessment of Laf since that AGM based on comments in that AGM. It was cleared that I over valued him. Which I had mentioned to you since that time in a different AGM.

Not sure why you are holding on to my miss judged value of a player and using it against a completely different scenario almost a month later.

I asked you how you possibly thought that deal would get done and you said “I think it’s fair” and then made another with two worse pieces for your team. You defended that point to other comments as well.

Not holding onto anything I just have a decent memory. When I saw this trade I had my thoughts on it and was reading through the comments. Saw you saying Berggren + 17 more than fair plus maybe more picks.

I personally believe the evaluation is terrible much like the Laf for 9/17 deal. Berggren could be a gem for DET. It’s much easier for someone who doesn’t watch the team just shoot out assets for players “they” believe would help.
