Highly depends on how much Veleno would cost to re-sign but something like that could work for the Flames. Could make a good 4C or 4LW

He’ll probably sign for 2-3 years at around $1.875m a year

I thought about more retention but idk what a realistic number would be beyond what I’ve included.

That won't work then unless the cap goes up more than 1M. Also all the projections im looking at (EW and ASF) are saying 2 years ans 1.2M - 1.4M.

Yeah, I’d look at the Rasmussen & Zadina deals and expect him to land somewhere in between there on the low end.

I don't think DET will make the playoffs with this roster next season. TBL, FLA, and TOR will be tough to get past. You also have Ottawa and Buffalo that will be better next year. Boston is an unknown right now.

They dont have the elite scoring. They are the Canes without the structure and they have iffy goaltending with a weak right side of defense. Wings needed more than any team to win the lottery. They should be trying to retool instead of trying to compete next season. They need a big splash with their cap flexibility. They need much more help than plugging holes..

I think they will retain between $2-2.5M max on hom. For only offering a 2nd in return I would say $1.5-2M is fair

Eh, you never know. It’s a long grueling season and my thought process with this squad was to put together 4 lines that are tough to play against and a big physical, imposing defense that is equally tough to play against.

And I did it while keeping all four of our 1st round picks over the next 2 years in tact so maybe another move could be made to bring in an elite scorer whether that be through the draft or via trade.

I see where you're coming from, but i would try to target slightly different players as Detroit. I would look at players in their early-mid 20's that look like they can take another step: Dube, Parssinen, Tomasino, Loustarinen, Tolvanen, Farabee, Jarvis, Lundell, Valimaki, and so on. They'll be more expansive in terms of picks/players, but will fit Detroit's core group much better.

Also, I'm not sure how the Rangers value Trouba because of his contract, but he looks like an integral part of their team. One they'd be reluctant to move without filling the hole left behind.

Certainly interested in a handful of the guys you’ve mentioned however, if we’re going to give up high value draft picks, I’d want guys that are in or just entering their prime.

Regarding the Trouba/Rangers situation; I think they’re going to have some big, unpopular decisions to make this offseason regarding one or more big name players leaving the team one way or another. Lafreniere & K’Andre need new deals and they’re going to have to make some decisions on higher priced guys like Trouba, Panarin & even Trocheck in order to keep their younger core together.

Idk what they’ll do but, they simply can’t keep everyone.

@bast

Also, Braden Schneider will need a new contract next season and he may be ready to take on an increased role with Trouba potentially traded.
