Please let us have Bedard

Created by: VinnyDGM1
Team: 2023-24 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2023
Published: May 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With the upcoming NHL draft, and the Flames in cap hell, time to trade away almost all of our 2024 pending UFAs (and Vladar) along with a bunch of picks to Chicago for Connor Bedard pick and roster fill-ins. Chicago can flip those players over to other teams for more picks, prospects, whatever they choose to do. This will most likely not happen, but I'm a hopeless Flames fan that likes to dabble in insanity/lunacy.

Forward lines:
1st: Huberdeau/Kadri/Bedard
2nd: Pelletier/O'Reilly (signed at 2023 offseason free-agency)/Coronato
3rd: Coleman/Dube/Mangiapane
4th: Ruzicka/Dickinson/Duehr
Defense pairs:
1st: Kylington/Andersson
2nd: Tinnordi/Weegar
3rd: Gilbert/Zaitsev
Scratches: Stone, Phillips, Rooney
Goalies: Markstrom/Wolf

Think there's like 3 teams in the league that can get Bedard without completely destroying their franchise for the near century (BUF/NJD/EDM). Of those, none of them would give up what Bedard is worth.

If the impossible happened and Chicago did elect to consider an offer for the #1 pick; Coronato, Wolf, Andersson, Lindholm & 23’ 1st all need to be involved and they probably still wouldn’t do it.

I live in CGY and so prefer CGY to CHI in a big way, but NO way this gets Bedard. Not even close.

I find the most ignorant thing about this 'fantasy' trade of pretending to trade away CGYs future to get Bedard, is that you didn't even include ONE of CGYs best 3 futures, in Coronato, Pelletier and Wolf.
Just ignorant man

We don't have the assets for it plain and simple. A dynasty is built by having concentrations of talent at any given roster spot. Chicago doesn't have much incentive to trade a franchise player of his calibre because they can draft and supplement around him within 3 years.

Thinking about bedard package for NJD without gutting team (unrealistic but bored).
Do you think Nemec+Mercer+Buffalo 1st (acquired for Marino)+24+25 1st would be enough?

Mercer prob 2 1sts of value, nemec another 2, + 3 actual 1sts = 7 1sts of value?

Depends, but probably not. Think any trade for Bedard starts with a teams #1 or #2 asset, meaning Hughes.

Don't think value is bad, but I'm not sure.

Yeah obviously unrealistic but I'm trying to think of ways without destroying the core that could help Chi. Problem is chicago is absolutely BARREN. If it was anaheim or something giving pieces to build around Zegras, Terry, Mctavish, etc could make them a complete team, but I'm looking from chicago's side and they currently have nothing (which could arguably be a reason to trade for quantity)

Other possible assets: Casey, Arseni, Holtz, one of bratt/meier, Bahl, vilen, yegor, Schmid

It'd have to be a lot of premium assets. An entire core maybe. Too many "good" assets will just drive up cap.

Siegs, Mercer, Nemec, Schmid, 3 1sts (buff 23, njd 24, njd 25) I'd think would be enticing.

Top pairing LD on cheap deal long term, top 6 C or top line wing, RD1 top prospect, lottery 1st and 2 other picks, young potential starter.

Absolutely gargantuan haul that doesn't gut NJD

Well... at the NHL level we are pretty thin, as far as players that are part of our future, but that is intentional. Between the prospects we've already drafted and all the picks, though, we are FAR from barren.

Here CGY... try this.

CGY's 1st overall pick (unprotected) for the next 10 years, Lindholm, Andersson, Weegar and Huberdeau.

That "MAY" get Bedard.

At the NHL level or our entire pool in general?

The pool. I don't think there's a single player on Chicago's roster that matters that much aside from the guys in the awkward prospect/player stage and Jones

Top of my head I know Korchinski, Reichel, and Nazar. I know Soderblom, but only because his brother is on DET.

Yeah. Almost none of the older guys are part of the future plans. MAYBE Raddysh. Murphy they might keep around for a little while longer because, not only is he good, but he is smart and has great leadership qualities.

But as far as our entire system goes, the most important positions are more forwards with clear cut top 6 upside, and RHD. We actually have quite a few forwards with top 6 "potential", but most of them project more clearly as bottom 6. We are loaded with RHD at the NHL level, but, again, I doubt Murphy will be around for the long haul, Zaitsev definitely won't be, and it seems Mitchell is on his way out the door, then Kelley is a long shot and Krutil probably won't ever get a contract. However, Regula has a lot of promise, but he likely needs more time in the AHL. We have 3 goalie prospects, one of which is due to be in the NHL full time next season and will likely split time evenly with Mrazek, if he doesn't take the starting job entirely.

Notable young or young-ish Players:
Forwards: Reichel, Kurashev, Nazar, Guttman, Colton Dach, Greene, Hayes, Luypen, (obviously Bedard soon too), Thompson, James, Savoie, Safonov.
LHD: Korchinski, Kaiser, Phillips, Vlasic, Del Mastro, Allan, (maybe) Harding.
RHD: Rinzel, Regula, (maybe) Crevier.
Goalies: Soderblom, Commesso, Stauber, (maybe) Basse.
