CBJ fans thoughts

Created by: Typy29
Team: 2023-24 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: May 30, 2023
Published: May 31, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Merely just someone with a soft spot for cbj and wants to see them succeed. Trying to be realistic, however im by no means close to the team as a die-hard fan.
I am doing this for thoughts from jackets fans.

Defense intrigues me. I think they can get away with trading one of boqvist, peeke, or bean. Gudbranson may be tough with his m-ntc as well as his cap hit relative to his services.
I like blankenburg if he can stay healthy. I dont see why Jiricek wouldnt make the jump this season.
Mateychuk and svozil also on their way soon as well.
As for the needs of the teams in which I traded with, I did try to take that into account as well.

Thoughts?

Trades
1.
CBJ
  1. McBain, Jack [RFA Rights]
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Mcbain was top 10 in hits, I think he brings a game that the forward group needs more of outside kuraly and jenner.
Bemstrom seems like a pariah, and hes replaceable especially for someone who I think is filling a hole in the roster.
ARI
  1. Bemström, Emil
  2. Boqvist, Adam
Additional Details:
This is essentially bemstrom for mcbain and then boqvist for the 3rd. Boqvist has trouble staying healthy but if he does can step into AZ offense and PP. 2 team controlled younger players and giving up a 3rd does no damage to their draft capital.
2.
CBJ
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
I chose a 2025 3rd cause with 2 in the 3rd round this year and next, by 2025, itll be nice having extra picks by then as I believe the team could be competitive then.
PIT
  1. Roslovic, Jack ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Im sure theyre happy to take roslovic at a discount. Im sure theyll continue to try to compete as Sid, letang and malkin finish up.

I wouldn't throw Boqvist away. If he doesn't break his foot/ankle last year then he plays 70 games and scores ~40 points. I don't think the team is prepared to give up on him for a mid round pick when he's only just about to turn 23 and has shown some serious offensive upside the last couple years.

Fair

would you move peeke or bean then? With werenski coming back and emergence of jiricek, I saw him as expendable in terms of offense and puck moving

If Boqvist is traded then it should be as a part of a deal to bring in a big name, such as Lindholm maybe. If not then they should keep him. CBJ already has a bunch of young skilled forwards coming up anyways.

CBJ could maybe get a 2nd and definitely get a 3rd+ a little sweetener for Roslovic if they retain 50%.. Just a 3rd is fair value with no retention. I see Roslovic going to Boston.

Jackets decline both trades. For boqvist and bemstrom I want at least a late first.

Roslovic would get more than that at the deadline. No point in helping out a divisional rival for a third rounder in 2025

They do have alot of up and coming forwards, so i felt mcbain fit a different game into that lineup. They have lots of small skill guys. (gaudreau, johnson, texier, sillinger, foudy)
I see the jackets trusting their process as opposed to bringing in a big name. of course depends on who and what price. but thats just my opinion/feeling.

If they can land Lindholm without spending #3 overall, which I believe they definitely can, then I think they should definitely do it. It fast tracks the rebuild and they have enough young skilled guys that such a fast track makes sense.

Hard to say. I'm stubborn enough to want to give them each another year if Jiricek isn't ready for the NHL. I just don't see how all three of Boqvist, Bean, and Peeke could be busts and I think Larsen's **** defensive system had a lot to do with how poorly the team was defensively. A lot of people like Blankenburg, but I'd rather he were their 7th D since he's probably more injury prone than Boqvist is. Again if Jiricek isn't ready next year, I'd like to see the defense next year be:

Werenski - Boqvist

New 2LD - Peeke

Bean - Gudbranson

Blankenburg

Sillinger really doesn't fit the "small skilled" description at 6'1 201 lbs. I'd argue KJ, Tex and Foudy don't either since they're all 6'1 or taller too, but they are on the light side still.

Boqvist is one of the most misunderstood assets on this site lately

Cbj should absolutely hold onto him unless a deal comes up they can’t pass on

Yeah, at 22 I don't really give a **** that he has had a couple broken bone injuries when he has produced like he has the last couple years. It's not concussions and it's not ligament/muscle stuff that can keep coming back up. I'd love it if he ends up being a guy they can sign to a long term $4-5M contract and he massively outperforms it while avoiding the injury bug. The right coach should be able to exploit his offensive ability while protecting his defensive shortcomings too.

We also just added Voronkov who is by no means small. Watch his highlights dude loves the contact. I would also love to get But in this years draft with 22 or 34.

Boqvist is our Tyson Barrie, down to the small stature and handedness. Just got to hope the right trade materializes to move him for a Kadri equivalent like what Colorado managed.

Boqvist is better at both ends of the ice than Barrie was at 22

Barrie put up 38 points in 64 games at 22 so that's a bit of a bold statement.

Barrie was also a late round pick who worked his way up to the NHL, not a top-10 pick who was rushed by a team trying desperately not to rebuild then traded to another team that immediately had to rebuild. He didn't even play a full season in the NHL til he was 22. Of course Boqvist was "better" than Barrie at that age.
